Karaduvar (Anchiale) is located on Akdeniz District of Mersin Province. Akdeniz is a municipality and district govern orate in greater Mersin. Most of government offices as well as the seats of Mersin governor and the mayor of Greater Mersin are in Akdeniz. Akdeniz also hosts most of the business quarters of the city. Railway station, harbour, free port and maritime authority, as well as, shipping and customs agencies are in Akdeniz.
Mersin is one of 16 metropolitan centers of Turkey which have more than one municipality within city borders. Now Mersin has four intercity municipalities in addition of Greater Mersin (büyükşehir) municipality. Akdeniz compose the center and east of Greater Mersin. Among the other intercity municipalities Toroslar is in the north and Yenişehir is in the west of Akdeniz. The south is bounded by Mediterranean sea.
Most of government offices as well as the seats of Mersin governor and the mayor of Greater Mersin are in Akdeniz. Akdeniz also hosts most of the business quarters of the city. Mersin railway station, harbour, free port and maritime authority, as well as, shipping and customs agencies are in Akdeniz. The port of Mersin is the biggest in Turkey. It is especially used for export. In the port area there is a 100 000 tonnes grain silo and a fertiliser factory. East of Akdeniz is industrial region, with a petrolium refinery and factories of glass, cement, ferrochrome and soda.

THE ANTIQUE CITY OF ANCHIALE
Anchiale was the Titan goddess of the warming heat of fire. She was the wife of Hekateros, the Titan-god of the hands, and mother of the metal-working Daktyloi, literally the Fingers. These rustic gods lived on the slopes of Mount Ida (either the Kretan or Phrygian mountain), and together represented the power of fingers and hands to create and utilize fire. Indeed, it was Ankhiale's own brother Prometheus who stole fire from heaven for mankind.
