Sailing in Turkey also allows visitors to experience the hospitality of the people in the coastal villages and towns. The tempered winds blowing from west and northwest make the long summers ideal for yachting, and seem to encourage an appreciation of nature. From some of the turquoise coast's unspoilt and sheltered bays you can see mountain peaks rising to almost 3000 meters above sea level.

Kara Ada is a small Turkish island in the Bay of Bodrum in the Aegean Sea. It is a popular tourist destination, particularly for yachting. Karaada Island is 3.6 Nm long and it lies SE direction. Karaada is 2 miles from south of Bodrum. The island is covered with pine trees.

Karaada is considered to be the savior of Bodrum. It is the biggest of the close island in Bodrum and works as a gigantic breakwater. It is said that the island protects Bodrum from massive waves and dangerous storms. The piers on the northern part are fair weather anchorages.

In the Middle Ages the island, which the Greeks know under the name of Arkos, was taken over by the Knights of St. John Hospitaller, who also occupied Bodrum. It was conquered by the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century. In 1919 it was occupied by the Italians. The 1932 Convention between Italy and Turkey assigned it to Turkey.

At the back of the island there are many coves and beaches competing in beauty with each other. One and a half kilometres to the to east of Poyraz Port and to the north of Yassı Island is Adalı Cove, while one and a half kilometres to east of Tavşan Point stretches Çemberci Cove. Both are much visited the boats as the bottom sand and sea is very clean.

Famous for its healing mineral springs. The water comes out of a cave and the mud from the cave is said to be good for skin condition. RESTAURANT

On the seaside there is a small motel and restaurant. The boats pull up to the wooden jetty, and you can hop onto dry land for a quick drink or snack. You sat on the upper balcony to the left of the jetty to savour your corn on the cob!  It was a great vantage point to look back at Bodrum, and appreciate the Aegean.

DIVING

There are eight diving spots around Karaada. They are favorite for divers. Some interesting names like Kaçakçılar or Kabarcık Mağarası, carry specific underwater characteristics. All foreign divers must be accompanied by licenced Turkish guide diver. Boats should take all necessary precautions while cruising in the diving zone to pay attention for buoys and reduce speed.

The coves facing to Kos Island on the south has become training area for the divers. The water is clear and depths are gradually gets deeper. Artificial reef and wrecks including coast guard boat at the depth of 17 - 26 m, C-47 Dakota airplane at the depth of 17 - 25 m and Navy-tanker vessel at the depth of 18 - 36 m, are the bottom. Attractive spot for divers.
