Sailing in Turkey also allows visitors to experience the hospitality of the people in the coastal villages and towns. The tempered winds blowing from west and northwest make the long summers ideal for yachting, and seem to encourage an appreciation of nature. From some of the turquoise coast's unspoilt and sheltered bays you can see mountain peaks rising to almost 3000 meters above sea level.

Replacement of telltails is included in winter maintenance price. Price offer given and approved repair prices and the cost of spare materials(clamcleat, cloth, batten, etc.)used are added to the cost of winter maintenance.

Winter Service
Sails are a substantial investment, and sails whose yearly maintenance is correctly made can serve you for years. In this respect UK Sailmakers is continuing to expand its service network throughout Turkey.

UK Lazy Bag
UK Lazy Bag is definitely the easiest way to fold and to protect your mainsail from the sun. Our sail protection systems are a mixture of acrylic sail cover and lazy jack. Only release your halyard and ensure your mainsail neatly folded in UK-Lazy Bag just pulling the zip to close the cover will be enough. Your mainsail will be easily packed and protected from the sun within minutes.

UV Band Change
UV Band is made with a special cloth to prevent your sails from sun damage. When you have a problem with UV Band, this has to be changed fairly quickly in order to protect your sail from UV light. Acrylic, self adesive dacron or UV Dacron is used as UV band cloth. Also the thread used is with UV protection and durable. In UV band changes we also change the corner straps and for reinforcement we use leather as in new sails. Speicialy for UV band changes, we use heavy duty sail sawing machines in order to sew the corners stiffined by salt and sun. If these machinary and correct material is not used the UV band change will not be correct and will look and be protected worst than before.r.

KIZILADA LIGHTHOUSE RESTAURANT

Kızılada - Fethiye - Muğla - Turkey

GPS : 36°39'08.6"N 29°02'37.0"E / 36.652399, 29.043620

PHOTOGRAPHS ALBUM

The Kızılada Lighthouse (Turkish: Kızılada Feneri) is an historical lighthouse still in use, which is located on the island Kızılada in the Gulf of Fethiye, southwestern Turkey. Approach is to be attempted from the deep strait on the west. On this approach a cove on starboard on Kızıl Ada is adeqaute shelter with a line to a bollard.

The cove by the rocky point, with an islet in the middle, is also pretty spot. There is room for just a few boats. A narrow cove near the end of the point is usually occupied by excursion boats. They always stop for swimming breaks in its turquoise water. By noon it will be crowded, but peaceful at night and provides all-round shelter. The setting is wonderful at night.

The strait between Büyük Yassıca and Kızıl Ada is shallow. One-metre reefs allow passage ony close to Yassıca (in 2 to 3 nmi), but local knowledge is required to use it. It is much better to take the passage from the north. An islet, close to Kızıl Ada, there is a creek on the south, provides adequate shelter from prevailing winds with a line to bollard.

The rocks of various sizes in the north-west (Deliktaş Islands) are very handy for diving and fishing. The eastern coast of Kızıl Ada is protected from the waves and the wide beach is suitable for swimming and casting anchor. These anchorages are always loaded by excursion boats. It is always better to arrive in late afternoon and leave befor noon in the next day. Diving courses and tours are organized in the vicinity.

There are two bays on the north of the island where yachts can anchor. It is sheltered against dominant winds; yet, immediate and severe winds can come over the island. It is open to northwest, north and northeast. This is an attractive uninhabited cove which provides good shelter from the meltemi. Anchor is 5 - 7 m on a sandy spot. There are some Byzantine ruins ashore.

The lighthouse was renovated in 2007, and is powered by a wind turbine. It is floodlit at night.

In 2007, the lighthouse was opened to tourism pursuant to a 49-year lease to the Kizilada Tourism Corporation. A seafood restaurant was opened next to the lighthouse in 2007, and the next year a hostel with nine rooms was added. Kızılada is a popular stopover for boat tours around Fethiye.

In 2008, a 31.47-grams silver coin was minted with the lighthouse's profile.

Forestry
Named after its reddish-brown (Turkish: kızıl) appearance, the island was forested again in 2014 with about 5,000 saplings of Turkish pine (Pinus brutia), laurel (Laurus nobilis), carob (Ceratonia siliqua) and Turkish sweetgum (Liquidambar orientalis). After plantation, the saplings were treated with banishing chemicals to protect them from wild goat (Capra aegagrus) and hare (Lepus) living on the island. The forested area makes out around 40% of the island, which is covered by scrub vegetation.

Aviation accident
A Lockheed L-749A Constellation aircraft operated by Air France on the flight AF152 en route from Rome, Italy to Beirut, Lebanon ditched 10 km (6.2 mi) off the coast of Fethiye, about 2 km (1.2 mi) off the island Kızılada after midnight on August 3, 1953. The cause of the accident was a propeller failure. The lighthouse keeper Durmuş Arıkan rushed to the accident site by boat and rescued some survivors. He also alerted customs officials and fishermen who helped in the rescue. Of the 8 aircrew and 34 passengers on board, 38 survived the accident while four passengers drowned.
