The Alanya marina is filled with colourful boats and yachts and there are restaurants offering fresh seafood and bars at which to enjoy a refreshing drink. Not in the bustling centre, but very accessible to all attractions, the Marina provides its guests with a comfortable and relaxing stay.
Alanya is a beautiful holiday center of modern hotels and aparts, numerous fish restaurants and cafes and bars. The cafes that ring the harbour have become popular gathering places for tourists. From the town's lovely park, the road runs along the coast to the harbour, lined with countless boutiques that tempt tourists with handicrafts, leather, clothes, jewelry, handbags and the amusing painted gourds, a symbol of the area.
The district is characterized by its many hotels close to the sea while everyday local life is carried on behind. In addition the district lies on the Eastern Beach where the sea is relatively shallow and therefore better for children and where a wide variety of beach and water sport activities is available.
The island of Cyprus is only a 2.5 - 3 hour ferry ride away from Alanya, and cruise ships depart regularly every week from Alanya in the summer to Cyprus.

With over 8,333 km of coastline along the four seas, Turkey is a treasure chest of coves, inlets, bays and beaches at which yachtsmen can choose a different, private anchorage each night.
Sailing in Turkey also allows visitors to experience the hospitality of the people in the coastal villages and towns. The tempered winds blowing from west and northwest make the long summers ideal for yachting, and seem to encourage an appreciation of nature. From some of the turquoise coast's unspoilt and sheltered bays you can see mountain peaks rising to almost 3000 meters above sea level.

Gazipaşa is a town and district of Antalya Province on the Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey, 180 km east of the city of Antalya. Gazipaşa has not experienced the tourist boom of neighboring Alanya but there are now efforts being made to attract tourists to the district by building a yacht marina and an international airport. Tourist attractions include some sites from antiquity, caves, beaches, mountain walking.
Gazipaşa is an important centre of antique Pamphilian civilization and very rich in archaeology. The Taurus Mountains with their snowy peaks in the winter, run parallel to the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, and provide excellent mild weather conditions to the region.
Antalya International Airport has direct connections most of the capitals and many major cities in Europe and Gazipaşa Airport which is only 20 km from the Marina is now open to International and Domestic flights.
Gazipaşa is a quiet rural district famous for its bananas and oranges. The local economy depends on agriculture; the land on the coastal strip is used for growing fruits and vegetables, especially citrus fruits and bananas, and in recent years a large number of glass houses have been built to produce crops such as cucumbers, strawberries and artichokes all year round. Gazipaşa district is neighbor Alanya from west, Sarıveliler from north and Anamur from east.

BEACHES
This beautiful district has a coastline of approximately 50 km and its center is located 3 km away from the sea. About half of the coastline of Gazipaşa, which has suitable beaches for swimming, is sand and the other part consists of rocks. The virgin sea inlets with a rare beauty hiding in these rocks are ideal places for swimming.
CARETTA CARETTA HATCHING PLACES
The beaches of Gazipaşa are used as nesting grounds by the sea turtles caretta caretta. Construction is forbidden in these sea turtle areas. It makes these beaches even more silent. Land, plateaus or coastlines do not only display the beautiful and virgin nature of Gazipaşa; the sea is another remarkable source of beauty.
Huge turtles (caretta caretta), which are becoming extinct and are under protection, and pretty Mediterranean sea calves (Monacus Monacus) are seen in Gazipaşa seashores. Gazipaşa beaches are one of the seashores of the Mediterranean, where Carettas come for breeding and their babies popping out from the eggs start their journeys towards to ocean. Special precautions are taken for the spawning and hatch periods of turtles by voluntary and official organizations.
FISH AND SEA PRODUCT SPECIES LIST OF THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA
HISTORICAL PLACES
Ancient port nearby Selinus Beach extending 2.5 km and remainders of the castle protecting the port both show that this small special beach has an eternal history. Hacı Musa Stream flowing from the mountains reaches the sea from the eastern side of the beach after twisting on the plains. Both sides of the stream housing freshwater fish are decorated by dropping willows and other trees. When we look at the hillsides by raising our head, we can see the banana gardens, which love to overlook the sea and are intertwined with the ancient city’s artifacts scattered over a broad area.

HISTORICAL PLACES
The ruins of Aphrodisias (not to be confused with the well known ancient settlement in Aydın Province) are on a cape a few kilometers east of Yeşilovacık. These ruins, now called Tisan, date back to 7th century BC of Hellenistic age. During the last years of Seljuk Empire Aphrodisias lost its former importance. In 1210 Leo I, the king of Lesser Armenia sold this town to Knights Hospitaller. The knights renamed the city as Porto Cabalieri. However, this medieval town didn't survive.

Sipahili (former Babadıl) is a village in Gülnar district of Mersin Province. It is situated at the east bank of a creek. It is on the state highway D.400. Distance to Gülnar is 41 kilometres (25 mi) and to Mersin is 148 kilometres (92 mi).
The town of Gülnar is 32 km (20 mi) inland on a plain high in the Taurus Mountains, attractive countryside known for its vineyards and its green meadows used for summer grazing. Gülnar is a small town providing high schools and other basic amenities to the surrounding villages. The road from central Anatolia to Anamur on the Mediterranean coast passes through here, one of the windiest roads imaginable, making Gülnar a remote district indeed.
Much of the cultivated area is vineyards, other important crops are grains and chick peas. The high meadows are used for summer grazing.
The area has been occupied since the time of the Hittites, and was later settled by the Assyrians, Persians, Egyptians and later the Ancient Romans. The people of Gülnar today are descendents of the Turkmen tribes that came here from Central Asia in the 13th century.

Mamure Castle (Turkish: Mamure kalesi) is a medieval castle in the Anamur District of Mersin Province, Turkey. The castle is on the Mediterranean coast on the D400 highway, 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) east of Anamur and 216 kilometres (134 mi) west of Mersin.
Castle Anamur (Mamure Kalesi) - is one of the most beautiful and best preserved castles in Turkey. It was built in the third century by the Romans. It was used by the Crusaders and the Seljuk and Ottoman. It was rebuilt in the fourteenth century by Ibrahim Bey Karamanoğlu I. It has 36 towers and two huge squares that contain a mosque and the remains of the stables and armory.
The castle was built by the rulers of the Kingdom of Cilicia on the foundations of a fourth-century Roman castle. Designed to protect against pirates, it was repaired during the Byzantine era and during the Crusades. When Alaattin Keykubat I of Seljuk Turks captured the ruins of the castle in 1221, he built a larger castle using elements of the earlier fortifications. Later, it was controlled by the Karamanid dynasty (who ruled a Turkish state in Anatolia).
Although the exact date is uncertain, according to an inscription by İbrahim II of Karaman in 1450, the castle was captured during Mahmut's reign (1300-1311). The castle was renamed as Mamure (prosperous) after repairs by Mahmut. In 1469, the castle was annexed by the Ottoman Empire. It was subsequently repaired in the 15th, 16th and 18th centuries and a part of the castle was used as a caravansarai.
The 23,500-square-metre (253,000 sq ft) castle is surrounded by moat. Its 39 towers and bastions are connected by wide ramparts. The castle has three main courtyards; to the west, the east and the south. The western courtyard contains a small complex of a single minaret mosque and a ruined Turkish bath. The southern courtyard has the remains of a lighthouse.
Caretta Caretta
It is possible to watch "caretta caretta" turtles, in danger of extinction, while they are laying eggs on the beach or when the baby turtles are hatching and going to the sea.

Anamur is a town and district of the province of Mersin, on the Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey, between Antalya and the city of Mersin. Anamur is Turkey's southernmost point, a coastal resort famous for its bananas and peanuts.
Although there are places of historical interest, long beaches and a clean sea there is no large scale tourism on this part of the coast as the coast road in both directions is winding and really slow to drive. But there are major road works now into the direction of Mersin and Antalya.
Gazipasa Airport (near Alanya) has opened mid-2011. Direct charter flights from Amsterdam (Netherlands) take place twice a week. In 2012 also German airliners will fly to this airport. Other airports are in Antalya or in Adana. Although some people from central Anatolia as well as foreigners from Europe (Germans/Austrians/Dutch) have holiday homes here, Anamur itself is a quiet, isolated town with no night life, and in winter is very quiet indeed.
Anamur Iskele is the beach resort of this area. A lot of holiday flats and villa's are situated near the beach or more inland. Plenty of small and some bigger hotels offer good quality as well as the restaurants near the small boulevard. The beaches are important nesting grounds for the sea turtle caretta caretta and the rocky areas of coastline are inhabited by the Mediterranean Monk Seal.
There are great undeveloped sandy beaches almost totally deserted around the ruins of Anemurion, with a seawater temperature close to the levels of a hot tub. However, take care of not disturbing turtle eggs of an endangered species (Caretta caretta), which lay eggs to many beaches in the area. Especially discouraged (and sometimes, outright banned) are using beach umbrellas or other objects with sharp ends, building firepits, and leaving behind even the smallest piece of trash. Sometimes local military police (jandarma) shuts the entrance to the beaches in the evening and through the night, out of environmental concerns.
The local economy depends on agriculture, especially bananas and strawberries. The weather here is very, very hot and this is the only part of Turkey that can sustain bananas, there are banana plants everywhere and now other tropical fruits such as papaya, pineapples and avocados are being planted here too. Anamur produces 40% of Turkey's strawberries. A traditional local speciality is taro (known locally as gölevez).

SITES TO VISIT
Mamure, the old Crusader castle.
Mamure Castle, the medieval castle, well-preserved, about 7 km (4 mi) south east of Anamur. Originally built by the Romans in the third or fourth century AD, it was enlarged by the Byzantine Empire and the Crusaders. After the Seljuk Turkish Sultan `Ala' ad-Din Kay-Qubad captured the castle in 1221, he had it rebuilt in its present form. It consists of three courtyards with 39 towers, surrounded by a moat. In one courtyard there is an ancient mosque with a minaret – built by Mahmud Bey of Karaman in 1300-1308 - which is still open for prayer. There are the ruins of a bathhouse on the opposite side. The castle is in two sections with two lines of ramparts between them, a walkway along the ramparts links the two sides.
Anemurium Ruins
GPS : 36°01'27.6"N 32°48'10.0"E / 36.024342, 32.802787
Anemurium, in modern Turkish Anamur, in Ancient Anemourion, was a major city of the Roman province of Rough Cilicia, the Byzantine Cibyrrhaeot Theme. Its bishopric is now included in the Catholic Church's list of titular sees. It was situated near a high bluff knob (Cape Anamur) that marks the southernmost point of Asia Minor, opposite Cyprus.
The ruins of its theatres, tombs and walls are still visible and were first mentioned by Francis Beaufort, an English naval captain who explored the south coast of Turkey in 1811-12 and who published his discoveries in Karamania. Excavations directed by Professor Elizabeth Alfoldi, University of Toronto (1965-1970), and subsequently James Russell, University of British Columbia (1971-2000), along with his colleague Hector Williams and his wife Caroline, have revealed extensive traces of the city's buildings, tombs and history from the 1st century after Christ until the city's abandonment around 650 when Arab attacks made the coast unsafe.
Teams have uncovered a large theater, a small covered theater or odeon, several public baths decorated with mosaic floors (some converted to industrial use in late antiquity), four early Christian churches (also with mosaic floors and donors' inscriptions), a possible civil basilica (law court), sections of the city walls and aqueducts, and a number of minor structures. Work in the city's extensive necropolis of several hundred tombs built above ground has revealed and conserved wall paintings (including the four seasons) and more mosaic floors. Anemurium had its own mint which produced coins from the late 1st century CE to its capture by the Sassanians in 260, an event that sent the city into decline for many decades. In medieval times the Kingdom of Little Armenia established a castle, known as Mamure Castle, near the city.

Aydıncık has also been called Celenderis, Gilindire, Kelenderis. Aydıncık is situated between Silifke, Taşucu and Bozyazı, Anamur. It has always been a port town since the Antiquity.
This remote coastline is mostly unspoiled and 38 km long, including some sandy beach, and the town of Aydıncık is spread along the coast near a small point, Sancak Burnu. In a harbour the beautiful blue sea makes a U turn. In the south of this inlet there is a peninsular about 25 m in height and 200 m in length. This peninsular has been artificially lengthened by 200 m to form the southern side of the fishing port.
Aydıncık Harbor is in the town Aydıncık, which used to be called Gilindire and which was called Kelenderis in the antique days. It is a sheltered harbor which is not easy to find at the west Mediterranean. It is a good place for sheltering and anchoring for the little sailing boats since depth in the harbor is 3-4 meters. There is a lighthouse at the top of the harbor, and the inlet is in the direction of west-southwest.

HISTORICAL PLACES
The remains of ancient Celenderis are very few and the ruins today are mostly overlaid by the expanding modern Aydıncık. Fortifications may still be detected around the modern lighthouse on the small promontory which forms and commands the harbor. There is a landlocked bay with its famous spring 1.6 km to the west at Soğuksu.
Here there are ancient ruins, notably a bath at the head of the bay and archaeological debris on the peninsula at its mouth. There are handsome but much destroyed rock-cut tombs at Duruhan 9.6 km to the North. In 2002, remains of a 2400 year-old harbor was discovered underwater around the island Yılanlı Ada.
Celenderis Coins
The town gave name to a region called Celenderitis, and coined those silver tetradrachms, which supply some of the earliest and finest specimens of the numismatic art.[8] There are also coins of the Syrian kings, and of the later Roman emperors.
The Port Bath
It was most probably built during fourth or fifth centuries AD. The castle on the point and the theater apparently belong to the Roman era.
Tombs
In the graveyards of the city, rock graves, vaulted graves and pyramid-roofed monumental graves can be seen spanning a period from the sixth millennium B.C. up to the fourth century. The majority of the items displayed at the museum are from these graves.
Floor Mosaic
The mosaic discovered near the port in 1992 is an exceptional example in depicting the panorama of the city as it stood in the fifth century.
The Dörtayak Cenotaph
There is a large Roman Cenotaph with four columns from the 2nd century. It was marked as a CENOTAPH (a monument erected as a memorial to a dead person or dead people buried elsewhere, especially people killed fighting a war) on the map of Chelindreh harbor prepared by Rear Admiral Sir Francis Beaufort. This is a tetrapylon made of well-cut limestones with a rectangular burial room on the lower part, four pylons erected on this and a pyramidal roof carried by the arches of the four pylons. This type is a common one in the Roma period and may be dated to the second half of the second or early third century AD.
Gilindire Cave
The cave of Gilindere is about an hour's ride along the coast by small boat, and is 555 m of attractive stone and crystal formations.
FISH RESTAURANTS
They are clean and have pleasant services. Fishes available due to seasons.

There are tea and coffee gardens in the bay. People can sit under the trees in the shadow. The sea is always smooth here even during windy days. That is why people prefer this beach for bathing. You can also set up your tent and stay here.
Next to the Toslaklar Bay, at Kaledibi, the tree in the garden of the hotel with a botanical garden is worth seeing. This huge tree is not as old as it seems. It is about thirty years old. Its roots cover a very big area both under and above the ground. Its fruit looks like myrtle and tastes like figs. The tree has an interesting feature. Because of the positioning of its branches and leaves it creates a continuous breeze for those who sit under it. There are many interesting plants around the tree.
It is called Israeli rubber tree and it was planted by Ahmet Pekmezcioglu, one of the academics of the Mediterranean University. In Turkey there are only three of these trees.

Tekeli is a town in Mersin Province, Turkey. Tekeli is a part of Bozyazı district which itself is a part of Mersin Province. It is situated on a small coastal plain surrounded by the Toros Mountains. It is Datça Mersin highway which runs parallel to Mediterranean coast. Tekeli is 15 km (9.3 mi) to Bozyazı and 186 km (116 mi) to Mersin.
The territory around Tekeli was ruled in turn by Hittites, Lydians, Romans and Byzantines. In 1225, it was annexed by the Seljuks and after the disintegration of Seljuks, it fell to Karamanids. Finally in 1466 it was incorporated in the Ottoman Empire. According to municipality, the name of the town refers to historical Turkmen tribe of Teke which is also known as the founder of Teke Beylik. The Teke Turkmens migrated from Turkestan to South West Anatolia (Antalya region) in the 13th century. Between 16th and 18th centuries a part of nomadic Teke people migrated to the present location.
The village was founded in 1864. After the First World War the village was briefly occupied by Italian Army. But during the Turkish War of Independence the town became a part of Turkey in 21 May 1921. In 1987, it was declared a township.
The most pronounced economy activity in Tekeli is greenhouse agriculture. Bananas, peanuts and all kinds of citrus are also produced. The touristic (beach) potential of the town is also promising.

Bozyazı is a town and district of Mersin Province on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Established on the outskirts of the Taurus Mountains, the county has a well kept coastal line. With the brook of Bozyazi, the historical houses, and the good service to the yacht tourism, the county is visited everyday by more and more people. A two-lane street leads to the coast.
It has a lot of potential for an expanding tourism industry. Since there is no industrial plants or heavily populated areas within the borders of Bozyazı, the sea along the coast is extremely clean. There are also hotels providing good quality service. There are makeshift restaurants and cafés along the shore. They also provide beach chairs and umbrellas for the bathers.
The brook called Sini flows through the middle of the town and reaches the sea. The Sini Stream also serves as a shelter for small fishing boats. Once they pass under the new bridge built over an antique one, the boats are protected against the waves and storms of the sea. It is sufficient to tie the rope to a tree trunk and leave it there.

There is a marketplace next to the clock tower. It is a very colorful marketplace where fresh fruits and vegetables growing on the fertile plain of Bozyazı are sold along with textiles and other good brought in from big cities. On the coast there are fishmongers and cafes.
THE MEDITERRANEAN MONK SEAL
The sea is clean and Bozyazı is home to an important colony of the endangered Mediterranean Monk Seal. The Mediterranean Monk Seal (Monachus monachus) is a pinniped belonging to the Phocidae family. At some 350-450 (fewer than 500) remaining individuals it is believed to be the world's second rarest pinniped (second only to the Saimaa Ringed Seal), and one of the most endangered mammals in the world. It is present in parts of the Mediterranean Sea and the Eastern Atlantic Ocean waters around the Tropic of Cancer as well.

TOWN
Don't get shocked when you see the rows of apartment buildings on both sides of the street when you arrive in Bozyazı. Because further down there is a beautiful coast, a small island linked to the mainland through an isthmus, a lovely brook, some houses that display the traditional features of civilian architecture and a rich history. The brook called Sini flows through the middle of the town and reaches the sea.
When you turn right after crossing the bridge you enter a narrow street flanked with old houses, some of them dilapidated but others in good condition. Walking down the narrow street you arrive at the seaside where you will see the small offshore island linked to the mainland by a narrow strip of road. The narrow road looks like a breakwater has sandy beaches on both sides.
When you turn left after crossing the bridge the meandering road takes you towards a hill passing between old houses in gardens. As you climb up, the road gets worse but the scenery gets better. It is not a long and tedious road anyway. From the side of the hill you get scenery of rooftops of the houses on the slopes, the sea and the island. The only attraction on the hill is not the scenery. There are also the ruins of an antique city here. We can see the ruins that are above the ground surface.
COASTLINE

HISTORY
The ruins of the ancient city of Nagidos are on a hill above the town of Bozyazı. They are being excavated by a team from Mersin University who have found traces of occupation going back to the Hellenistic period of the 4th century BC, when Nagidos was an outpost of Rhodes and Samos, a small port established to trade goods from Egypt and Cyprus. The town was subsequently controlled by Egyptians, Ancient Romans, Byzantines and Seljuk Turks.
THE ANTIQUE CITY OF NAGIDOS
GPS : 36°05'59.0"N 32°58'41.0"E / 36.099722, 32.978056
Nagidos was an ancient city of Cilicia. In ancient times it was located between Anemurion to the west and Arsinoe to the east. Today its ruins are found on a hill at the mouth of the Sini Çay (Bozyazı Dere) near Bozyazı in Mersin Province, Turkey. It lies at a distance of ca. 20 km to the east of Anamur. Like its eastern neighbor Kelenderis, it was a colony of Samos. The small island of Nagidoussa is opposite Nagidos; on it are the ruins of an Ottoman fortress.
History
The details of the foundation and eventual abandonment of the city are unknown. From the end of the fifth century BC, the town minted staters that had both Greek and Aramaic inscriptions, one of which bears the name of the Persian satrap Pharnabazus. The Nagidos mint used a grape cluster as a symbol on the reverse. The goddess Aphrodite appears most often on the coins of Nagidos, indicating that her sanctuary must have been the most important in the city.
The Hellenistic period and the foundation of Arsinoe
In 333 BC the city was conquered along with the rest of Cilicia by Alexander the Great. After his death Cilicia briefly came under the control of the Seleucid Empire. Together with Mallos the city participated in the foundation of Antioch on the Maeander somewhere between 281 and 270 BC. In approximately 270 BC Cilicia was conquered by the Ptolemaic Empire during the Syrian Wars.
In this period the city of Arsinoe was founded between 279 and 260–253 BC on land taken from Nagidos by Aetos, the Ptolemaic strategos or military governor of Cilicia. Aetos was succeeded as strategos by his son Thraseas. At that time the Nagidians still refused to recognize the settlers of Arsinoe as the new owners of the land. To resolve the dispute Thraseas requested Nagidos to cede the land to Arsinoe, which the city agreed to. In exchange the citizens of Arsinoe became apoikoi of Nagidos, which meant that their city would be independent from Nagidos. Both cities exchanged isopoliteia so that the citizens of both cities enjoyed a single citizenship.
Designating the citizens of Arsinoe as apokoi of Nagidos meant that Nagidos was treated as the mother city of Arsinoe. Christian Habicht interprets this as a diplomatic move of Thraseas to appease Nagidos for its loss of territory. John K. Davies gives a slightly different chronology, estimating the foundation of Arsinoe to have taken place probably in the 260s BC. He writes that Cilicia was then temporarily lost to the Seleucids but retaken by Ptolemaics in the 240s. According to him the dispute over the land occurred after the reestablishment of Ptolemaic control and the Arsinoeis appealed to Thraseas some time after 238 BC.
Along with the rest of Cilicia, Nagidos came under Seleucid rule in 197 BC. Excavations have shown that the city was abandoned towards the middle of the second century BC. Possibly this was a consequence of the activities of the Cilician pirates.
Excavations
Ancient sources gave an important clue to the location of Nagidos because they mention the island Nagidoussa lay offshore from the city. This allowed the Austrian archaeologists Rudolf Heberdey and Adolf Wilhelm to identify the site at its current location in 1891. In the 1930s a Swedish expedition carried out explorations. In 1986 the museum of Anamur discovered 24 graves, the oldest dating back to the fifth century BC.
THE ANTIQUE CITY OF ARSIONE
On the 2nd km of the Bozyazı - Mersin road there is a hill named Maraş rising smoothly on the seaside. Some experts think that the ruins on this hill belong to the city of Arsione. The existence of Arsione is known from the writings of antique historians like Strabon and Pilinus. The Inscription of Peace found in Bozyazı also confirms the existence of Arsione.
There are remnants of an antique civilization on the ground surface on the rocky promontory. To the west of the ruins, there is a cove, which could have been used as a natural port. On the northern slopes of the hill, there are ruins among the bushes that indicate the existence of a Roman - Byzantine settlement. The foundations and some of the walls of the buildings are still standing.
There are the ruins of three Byzantine churches at the center of the settlement area. Church walls are built with unhewn rocks and the foundation plan of the buildings can be discerned from the remaining parts. To the west of the settlement area there are vaulted and domed Roman tombs again built with roughly hewn stones. On the exterior surfaces, marks of mosaics can be seen. This settlement seems to be abandoned during the early Middle Ages but resettled in later times.

To the west of the settlement area there are vaulted and domed Roman tombs again built with roughly hewn stones. On the exterior surfaces, marks of mosaics can be seen. This settlement seems to be abandoned during the early Middle Ages but resettled in later times.
