Sailing in Turkey also allows visitors to experience the hospitality of the people in the coastal villages and towns. The tempered winds blowing from west and northwest make the long summers ideal for yachting, and seem to encourage an appreciation of nature. From some of the turquoise coast's unspoilt and sheltered bays you can see mountain peaks rising to almost 3000 meters above sea level.

BLUE TEAM DIVING

Kaş - Antalya - Turkey

GPS : 36°12'11.1"N 29°38'25.7"E / 36.203091, 29.640475

PHOTOGRAPHS ALBUM

The Boat : Blue Team
We have two sunbath platforms on our 16 m long boat with capacity of 38. Our boat, which has all facilities such as kitchen, WC, hot water etc, has also a saloon to keep you comfortable in bad weather. Its diving platform eases your access to the sea for diving.

DIVE SITES

Cave Dive
There is a big pebble beach which faces the Greek Island. On the right and left hand side there are two caves. Both caves are not deep and can be entered from 7m to 9m. Divers can ascend in the caves which are both quite big.

Lighthouse
This is a very popular site as it is the closest to Kaş,iologically very diverse and with an old wreck. Easy to navigate around and with little or no current, it is also ideal for night dives. A scrapped WWII C-47 DAKOTA airplane (wingspan 29 m, length 20 m) was purposely sunk here at a depth of 22 metres to create an artificial reef: divers are able to explore the cargo area only.

Canyon
The Canyon is an amazing site to dive at. First, you are in a flat area which goes only 5m to 10m and then a sudden depth starts which resembles a canyon. It's an impressive site to sea. There is a French cargo shipwreck at 25m and its propellers are at 40m.

Oasis Reef
This reef gets its name from its sandy surroundings and from the very abundant fauna. This is an ideal second dive after the Canyon without leaving the anchorage point, with maximum depths above 27 m.

Flaying Fish Reef
This diving spot is the closest area which is near to Greek island Meis. This rocky reef with its top at 4m below the surface gets its name from the plane wreck that lies on its southeast end between 55-71m. This Italian torpedo-bomber, model Savoia-Marchetti SM79 nick-named “sparviero/sparrow-hawk”, was brought down by anti-aircraft fire while bombarding Meis island during WWII. Warning: this very deep and very risky wreck dive is only for very experienced divers. We also remind you that the current is sometimes “dive-cancelling”. This site really deserves its “one of the best in Turkey” title! When the current, usually coming from the southeast is bearable, fish are numerous on the wall on that side: predators such as dentex, groupers, barracudas, amberjacks and bonitos will delight you.

Besmi Reef
Besmi Island is a very beautiful site to dive. It has a bit of current but it depends on the weather. There are very big, well protected amphora's at arround 40m depth.

Kovanlı Island
There are a few bullet cartridges at depth and also a few beehives on the island. You will find one of the best underwater archaeology exhibits around Kaş here: amphorae who¬le or broken, stone and metal anchors abound. Be careful with the strong current coming from the west here.

Pina Reef
This site gets its name from lots of Pina.

Big Cave
A mighty big cave descending below 40m for experienced divers only; lights and a cool com¬position are a must! The entrance is easily found going west from the point, but it cannot be seen without descending in front of the overhang at 27m... Watch out for torn fishing nets to the right of the gate! The ceiling drops down inside starting from 32m, the bottom starts at 44m and gets deeper inside: careful not to lift the fine sand! Watch your depth and decompression limits while admiring impressive Neptune’s lace bouquets, button coral and quickly disap¬pearing red shrimp colonies. The entrance will be temporarily invisible if you venture down the left side branches of the cave. Once out, there is another big dent immediately to the south. Climbing up the wall and going further south is a big chimney and a rock arch at 32m: going in is a sandy bottom at 42m and again, amazing Neptune’s lace! At this dive site without any current, inexperienced divers can comfortably cruise on the roof of the cave and around the point.

Cape Çoban Tunnel
Going immediately down to 20m from the dive boat that anchors on the calm north side of the point and cruising west at exactly that depth one arrives directly at the entrance of the tunnel, a large chimney hidden between big rocks.. The 10m-long tunnel has most of its “Neptun’s lace” on its ceiling broken by divers’ bubbles and are now dense in the dark dents on both left and right walls continuing out of the tunnel.

Thirteen Reef
This rocky reef with the top at 13m is usually very busy with hunting predator fish, but again the strong southerly current is also there... The fish are therefore on the south and southeast slopes! The dive boat anchors close to the top of the reef or takes the hard-to-see buoy there.

Heybeli Island
The dive-boat may be at the “outward” (east) or the “inward” (southwest) side of the islands depending on the wind. There are a lot of alternative dives here: one may dive around the bigger island anti-clockwise or around the smaller island or on the south reef. The southern reef with its rocks elevating to 4,5m and its eastern sandy slopes, diverse sea-grass meadows, rocky slopes at the east of the small island and at the northeast of the bigger island and the very shallow but usable pass between the two islands present a rich and diverse ecology. Turtles are guaranteed!

Sarı Ot Island
A little far, but definitely the best wall in Kaş... The current usually comes from the south and may be very strong: as a classical start, you may have to work your way against it half way down the crack right at the southern tip of the island. Out of this narrow crack, there is no other way than going down the very much alive and seemingly endless wall: the current will ease off at depth. You can then go south following the wall where it’s well worth seeing the groupers and the lively colonies of anthias... On the way back, once up the wall and in the shallows, the current gets quite weak and it is easy to return to the boat following the bottom, amusing yourselves with a series of small rock circles. If you drift north with the current at the start, getting back will be by holding on to the rocks... Inexperienced divers will have it easy, by staying in the safe rocky shallows south of the island, without going over the wall...

Neptune- Three Rocks
The top of the reef starts at 7 meters and goes all the way down to 35 meters and more. The best is 25 meters max. There is rich underwater life in this area. he 29 metre ex-coastguard boat TCSG-119, that was purposely sunk here at a depth of 21 metres to create an artificial reef, has moved deeper due to strong winter storms..

Anchor Reef
This is another very nice historical dive site. A lot of anchors are in rocks which sometimes makes it difficult to see but our guides will show you. There is also rich underwater life.

Pigeon Island
A white marble shark sculpture reminisces of recent underwater art exhibitions and gives heart attacks to first-time divers! Dive south-eastward over the rocky slope and over a bit of sand: you will find an old wooden wreck at 22 m, a bit scattered around... East from there is a deeper small reef at 28 m, famous for its friendly striped groupers and a profusion of broken amphorae... Holes in the soft sand are full of surprises! Going back northwest while staying at 25m, you will find a newer sheet metal wreck sunk as an artificial reef; then going west takes you back to the island and to rest near the friendly white shark. If you follow the shore northward you will find the “peak performance buoyancy” exercise rings a lot of fun!

Hidayet-Stanehenge
A replica of the oldest known and very rich wreck excavated between 1984 and 1994 at cape Uluburun is sunk here to become home to all local grouper species, among others... Dated at the 15th century B.C., the cargo of this boat is now at the Bodrum Underwater Archaeology Museum. An “in situ” represen¬tation of the original Uluburun wreck, as it was found by sponge divers, is located at 15m with imitation amphorae, stone anchors and copper ingots. The rock&sand drop-off in front of the south point offers rich wildlife as it goes quite deep in big steps. The intricate bottom formations in the bay east of the wreck deserve their nickname: “Stonehenge”.

Gürmenli Island
In Gurmeli Island there are two good diving sites both of which have very deep anchors and reefs. It's very good area for day trips.

When you first reach the boat, you’ll learn all the necessary information and instructions from our professional team. All the necessary safety precautions are taken carefully. All you need to do is to follow the necessary instructions.

Cave Diving
In general, the caves are the most reliable sources that give information about how the earth used to be many years ago. So we find answers to the questions asked about the evolution of the earth (globe).  Sea caves give information about the geographical location, water levels, coastal features of the seas in the ancient times. The diving in the open seas and the cave diving are completely different from each other. Cave diving is the most technical and dangerous one among the diving types. For this reason, it requires a different and particular training.

Wreck Diving
French (Society) Wreck: The wreck lying 1 km off the Marina of Antalya under the buoy, belongs to French Combat Aircraft named "San Didier" sank during the war in 1942. During the studies performed between 1946 and 1974, a large part of the load inside the ship has been taken out. Inside this ship which has an appearance of hospital support ship, there were armories and vehicles suitable for desert conditions.

Due to the fact that the personnel wasn’t wearing uniform in order to disguise by camouflaging and the passengers in the ship wanted to bring away their personal belongings while the fishermen were helping, the ship was called “society wreck” colloquially. There are different diving activities in Kemer, our tourist town, where the most of the diving schools are present in Turkey. The French military transport ship found right in the entrance of Antalya Port, lies in 20-32 meters of depth, the water that is usually blurred is very interesting for the underwater wreck fans.

The Paris Wreck which lies in 33 meters of depth on the sand in the offshore of Kemer Marina is a wreck that must be visited by all divers. Üç Adalar found in the offshore of Tekirova is a region where various types of diving are available. In the canyon, which is a rich diving spot of the region, large stingrays and every kind of fish can be seen. Üç adalar is also ideal for cave diving. In August and September, schools of tuna fish can be seen as well as the seals.

This water is great for macro and night photographing. The dolphins can be seen in the coastal water any moment.B-24 Amerikan Combat Aircraft Wreck: The wreck lying in 200 m in the offshore, close to the District of Manavgat in Antalya, belongs to the American Combat Aircraft Type B-24 named “Hadley’s Harlem” which departed in order to return to the base in Cyprus after accomplishing its bombing mission over Romania in 1944.

During the removing operations performed in 1995, the plane's cockpit has been brought out of the water, after staying in the Cengel gendarmerie station for a while, it has been transferred to one of the private museums in İstanbul. The operations for taking the rest of the aircraft out of the sea still continue. Special diving permission is required for the aircraft. Gelidonya Antique Wreck: Gelidonya wreck found in the west end of the Antalya Bay, belongs to a cargo ship that hit the rocks while sailing in the cape of Taşlık with its current name.

It’s determined that the ship dates back to the end of 13th century B.C. during the research diving performed for the wreck found in 26-28 meters depth in 1960. Another characteristic of this wreck is that it is the first underwater excavation performed and completed in compliance with the land excavation standards. During the research performed in 1994, it’s predicted from the stone anchors found in Gelidonya wreck that it hails from the Middle East. The collected items from the wreck are exhibited in Bodrum Underwater Archaeology Museum.

Exploration Diving
Stingray Diving Center, the door that opens to the endless depths of blue;

Think about the sunlight shining on you while you are in the deep azure water… If you raise your head and look, you’d see only an intense cloud of light covering you. However there’s only silence and blue all around you… At the same time, utterly endless and ready to be discovered. Corals in different colors and textures, thousands of species of fish and all living things that you can’t see on earth... Underwater is still like a hidden paradise... But you can go and explore again this world!

Stingray Diving School organizes the exploration dives for you in order to take a unique journey in the depths of the blue world.

Night Diving
What makes attractive the night diving for the divers is that the underwater life and living species can’t be seen exactly when dived in the morning.  Because the light source of the night diving is the diving torch, you can see the real colors of the underwater no matter what the depth is. It’s possible to see the bioluminescence, the charm of night diving, which is the light of the platonic organisms seen as the water moves.

There are some factors that the divers must consider during the night diving. First of all, the diving equipment must be chosen and controlled more carefully compared to the day diving.

For the diving to be done in hard conditions, generally the divers choose to dive with the equipment to be used for the first time.  Under normal circumstances, they don’t use the equipment that they used before or they already know. Because the night diving is already difficult, the divers don’t want to struggle with the problems cause by the equipment.

PATARA COVE ANCHORAGE

Patara, Kalkan - Antalya - Turkey

GPS : 36°15'08.6"N 29°18'43.5"E / 36.252383, 29.312078

PHOTOGRAPHS ALBUM

Patara Beach (Gelemiş Koyu), 17 km west of Kalkan by road on Turkey's Mediterranean coast, is known as the birthplace of Santa Claus, and also because of its l-o-n-g and uncrowded sand beach. St. Nicholas, was born in Patara in the 3rd century, and moved to Demre (Myra) where he became a bishop and did his many good works.

Patara beach is 18 km long, 50 meters wide, and never crowded, because the small village inland from the beach has only a few hundred tourist beds. The ruins of ancient Patara are just inland from the beach, and no big hotels can be built in an archeological zone, so the beach should be protected from heavy development. If the beach has one drawback, it's that there are few trees and thus little shade, so be prepared for a day of sun.

Patara Ruins

GPS : 36°15'37.5"N 29°18'52.5"E / 36.260421, 29.314580

The Patara ruins are interesting: a sand-swept theater, a triple-arched triumphal gate, a necropolis (cemetery) with Lycian tombs, a ruined basilica and a public bath, among others. The ruins of ancient Patara are a further 1.5 km south of the village, and the beach yet another kilometer through the ruins.

Patara, on the coast 8 km south of Xanthos, can claim Turkey's longest uninterrupted beach as well as a swag of atmospheric Lycian ruins. Just inland, 1.5 km from the beach and ruins, is the laid-back little village of Gelemiş. This is the perfect spot to mix ruin-rambling with some dedicated sun worship. Once very much on the hippy trail, Gelemiş is almost never filled with travellers these days - a miracle given its obvious charms - and traditional village life still goes on.

Backed by large sand dunes, this splendid, 18 km-long sandy beach is one of Turkey's best. Due to its length, even in the height of summer you can find a quiet spot. Sun-shades and loungers can be rented and there's a cafe for when you get peckish. Depending on the season, parts of the beach are off limits as it is an important nesting ground for sea turtles. It always closes at dusk and camping is prohibited.

Patara's grand monuments lay scattered along the road to Patara Beach. The main section of ruins is dominated by the dilapidated 5000-seat theatre. Next door is the bouleuterion, ancient Patara's parliament where it is believed members of the Lycian League met. It has been thoroughly restored, following a two-year reconstruction. The colonnaded street , with re-erected columns, runs north from here. This would have been Patara's grandest boulevard, lined by shops and with the agora at its southern end.

Away from the main ruins there are plenty more remnants of Patara's long history to fossick through. From the ticket booth, along the Gelemiş–Patara Beach road, you first pass by the 2nd-century triple-arched triumphal Arch of Modestus with a necropolis containing a number of Lycian tombs nearby. As you head along the road, next is a Harbour Baths complex and the remains of a Byzantine basilica before you arrive at the central section of ruins.

From the colonnaded street a dirt track leads to a lighthouse built by Emperor Nero that lays claim to being one of the three oldest lighthouses in the world. This is the area of the ancient harbour (now a reedy wetland) and is home to the enormous Granary of Hadrian , used to store cereals and olive oil, and a Corinthian-style temple-tomb .

Patara's place in history is well documented. It was the birthplace of St Nicholas, the 4th-century Byzantine bishop of Myra who later passed into legend as Santa Claus. Before that, Patara was celebrated for its temple and oracle of Apollo, of which little remains. It was Lycia's major port – which explains the large storage granary still standing. And according to Acts 21:1-2, Saints Paul and Luke changed boats here while on their third mission from Rhodes to Phoenicia.

Kalkan is a charming seaside village just up the road a bit from Kaş. The old town's cobbled streets are lined with colorful shops and outdoor cafes that lead down to the beach and the clear azure waters of the Mediterranean. You will find it difficult to resist the charms of Kalkan; whole days can evaporate just browsing the little shops or sitting in a cafe watching the world go by, people watching and taking in the views. The harbour itself is hemmed in by bars, restaurants and discos.

It has become a place preferred by many people now, with its clean boarding houses, and restaurants of fresh appetizers and fish. You can go to places of ruins in the whereabouts such as Patara, Letoon and Xanthos from here, see them and return by sailboats during the same day. The Harbor of Yeşilköy opposite Kalkan, is another good place of anchorage, too.

Kalkan. A quaint, charming, romantic, idyllic seaside village. Cobbled streets lined with shops and outdoor cafes lead down to the transparent azure waters of the Mediterranean and to Kalkan's small marina where you will find gullets waiting to take you out for a day's excursion to swim and lunch around the nearby small islands and bays. Kalkan is an old fishing town, and the only safe harbour between Kaş and Fethiye; it is famous for its white-washed houses, descending to the sea, and its brightly coloured bougainvilleas. It averages 300 days of sunshine a year.

PORT
The port is located NE of Yalı Bay between Ince Burun, opposite Yeşilköy Limanı. The breakwater and the harbor entrance is difficult to see from a far. By Meltemi wind the port is difficult because strong gusts effects entry. You can get berthed where it suits your boat. The boats are normally use visitors breakwater.

Kalkan is an old fishing town and the only safe harbor between Kaş and Fethiye, famous for its white houses, descending to the sea.

The yacht harbor and breakwater in Kalkan, which is exposed to the NW wind, is a secure shelter for yachts. The harbor has been completely renovated in recent years and is able to meet all your yachting needs.

Kalkan Limanı is on the NW corner of the bay. It affords adequate sheltering up to 30 boats from the southerlies. Strong southerlies send swell in. There is 5 to 9 m depth in the inlet. The bottom is sand. Anchor fore-and-aft, as there is little room to swing here, and try to avoid entangling your anchor with those of the craft lying on the opposite quays.

Entrance
The yacht harbor's depth are changes between 1 - 6 m. It is easy to enter and go out between the breakwater. There are no hazards in the entrance, though you are beam on to any swell if the winds are W/SW and there is not a lot of room to leeward since a swimming area is buoyed 50 metres off the beach.

Winds
Kalkan is exposed to the northwest wind and therefore, the yacht harbor and the breakwater here, serve as a safe shelter for the sailboats.

Berthing Options
Yachts moor on the SW quay, where there is room for about 12-14 yachts. Harbour staff will hail you on arrival and help you anchor moor back to the quay. The holding is mediocre here and you should aim to lay out at least 30 metres of chain. Absurdly, tripper gulets and dive boats moor on the quay at the end of the harbour, laying out their anchors at 90 degrees to the chains of yachts moored on the SW quay. One needs to be aware of this if planning to leave early. Also note there is a ground chain running down the middle of the harbour - decide either to lay your anchor short or well beyond the mid point and hope it digs in before the chain. Divers are readily availiable from the Gullets anchored on the north wall if you catch the chain.

Moorings : 50 yachts

Max. depth : 6 meters

SHOPPING
Swim in crystalline blue waters, enjoy lunch on board and afternoon tea before returning to stroll the narrow streets of Kalkan lined with many small shops offering carpets, kilims, silver and gold jewelry, glass and pottery articles and various types of clothing.

BEACHES
For your "day on the beach" Kalkan offers you a choice : A large public beach stretches along the front but you will probably discover your own favorite spot somewhere along the coast. The water will always be sparkling clean. The village has a pebbly beach open to the public, but you may prefer swimming directly off the rock platforms available at the "Yacht Club" on the far side of the marina.

You may also choose a very original Kalkan "day-spender" formula : the beach clubs. These are platform beaches across the harbor, reached by frequent shuttle boat service from the marina. "The platforms" provide everything a holiday-maker can need or dream of, from a sophisticated tequila cocktail to beach mats. This formula is extremely popular among our visitors who will spend their holiday in one of these beach clubs. Every one has a favorite but all offer very good services. They are open all day long and even for dinner by candle light.

From Kalkan marina you can also go deep sea diving with licensed diving instructors or just lounge around and swim at the Yacht Club on the other side of the marina, lazily watching the boats slip in and out of the harbor.

Kaputaş Beach
Kaputaş Beach is a long beach between Kaş and Kalkan in southwestern Turkey. It is situated at a distance of 20 km from Kaş and 7 from Kalkan, at a point where an extremely narrow valley towered by steep cliffs and forests joins the sea shore in the cove of the same name as the beach (Kaputaş). The beach is quite popular among visitors to the region due to its untouched natural beauty commanded by a view from the heights traversed by Kaş-Kalkan road.

There are no fixed amenities in Kaputaş Beach, with only ambulant vendors who set up small stands selling snacks and hiring out sun umbrellas during the day. The beach is reached by stairs descending from the road and is guarded by the municipality of Kalkan. It is a favorite stopover for yachts along the Blue Cruise, although the open sea, and sometimes also the cove itself, can be quite unstable and wavy. The sea gets deep rather close to the beach in Kaputaş.

HISTORICAL SITES

Three important Lycian cities – Xantos, Letoon and and Patara – are 30 km from Kalkan. You can hire a taxi to visit these sites, and enjoy swimming in turquoise waters.

Patara (Gelemiş Koyu)
Patara was the most important Lycian port, and one of its oldest cities. According to a legend, Pataros, the son of nympha of Apollon –  founded Patara. Heredotus mentioned Patara in the 5th century B.C. The city was famous for the Oracle of Apollo, which “spoke” only in winter  - it was believed that the summer oracle was in Delos. In 333 B.C., the city gave no resistance to Alexander the Great, in order to save itself from destruction. During the Roman Civil Wars of the 1st century B.C., the Lycians sided with Caesar against Pompeius. Brutus, who had assassinated Caesar in Rome, attacked Patara and demolished the city.

Then in the 2nd century, Patara became the judicial seat of the Roman governors, who again turned it into a port. From here the Roman fleet maintained its contacts with its eastern provinces. Patara was the birthplace of St. Nicholas, bishop of Myra (Demre), who was the basis for Santa Claus. Key buildings to see in Patara are the triumphal arch, or Monumental Gate, which was at the entrance to the city, the theatre, the necropolis with Lycian and Roman tombs, and Hadrian’s granaries.

Xantos (Ksantos)
Xanthos, the capital city of the Lycian Federation, was built in the valley of the Xanthos River. There are no definitive records of the exact date of its founding. As mentioned in The Iliad, King Sarpedon crossed the Xanthos River with his soldiers - but no further details are given. Like other Lycian cities, Xanthos was an independent state until the Persians invaded. In 545 B.C., they surrounded the city. The residents bravely defended it, but realized that they could not resist the invasion nor the ruler, King Harpagos, the men of Xanthos gathered their wives, children, and possessions in the acropolis, set fire to all, then rushed out fighting, to die to the last man.

About 80 families, who were out of the city during these events, returned and rebuilt Xanthos. In 43 B.C., Brutus attempted to take control of Xanthos during the Roman Civil Wars. As before, Xanthians chose mass suicide over submission. The Romans later took control of Lycia, and repaired the destroyed city. Antonius, who defeated Brutus, took over Rome’s eastern territories and gave the Lycians their freedom. Following two catastrophic earthquakes, Lycia began to decline.

The spread of Christianity brought more social and cultural changes to Lycia, and many cities became Byzantine settlements. Xanthos itself was the seat of an archbishop in the 8th century. It was abandoned during the first wave of Arab raids, which eventually brought the Lycian civilization to a close. The most interesting ruins in Xanthos are the Roman theatre and the buildings. There is also an impressive monument, originally a sarcophagus, on a rock. The original relief is in the British Museum.

Letoon
Letoon was the sacred cult centre of Lycia, dedicated to the goddess Leto. According to legend, Leto was loved by Zeus. She was chased away by the jealous Hera, but  gave birth to twins (Apollo and Artemis) on the island of Delos.  Another legend gives the birthplace as the source of the Xanthos River. In one story, shepherds angrily refused to let her drink from a fountain - in retaliation, she turned them into frogs.

The remains of two temples on the hillside, decorated with Doric friezes, date back to the 4th century B.C. The remains of the theatre can also be seen. The Byzantine church and Roman Nymphaeum are worth visiting. Like other Lycian cities, Letoon was ravaged by Arab raids. The area started to silt up with sand brought down by the Xanthos River.

FISH RESTAURANTS
Fish Restaurants are very famous with their fishes, cooking and services. Fishes available due to seasons.

As Antalya’s most Westerly town, Kaş can be described as a typically picturesque Mediterranean coastal town with small tea houses, cafes, small colourful souvenir shops, bars and restaurants scattered around the town’s old harbour. Kaş is a tourism heaven with its natural beauty, historical and architectural richness and endless options for sport lovers. Kaş is in the extreme South of Turkey and therefore the climate there is lukewarm even in winter. Kaş is a beautiful, small town, an attractive touristic destination, with small marina where many sailing boats anchor. Kaş is suitable place to do shopping and banking needs. Shops have been opened owing to the development of tourism and shopping can be done easily in them.

Located only 178 km to the West of Antalya, Kaş is a typical Turkish Mediterranean coastal town with its many bustling tea houses, welcoming cafes, small and colourful souvenir shops, bars and restaurants shaping the character of the rustic harbour. For years Kaş has been a town well known and favoured by the international scuba diver.

PORT

There is a large sign on the breakwater warning cruisers that pumping out toilets/holding tanks or even grey water containing detergent from showers/sinks is prohibited both in the harbour and in Kalkan bay and that fines will be imposed for any infraction.

The depth in the inlet is 5 - 8 m. There are a few laid mooring lines where you can pick up. A Coast Guard vessel berths on the inner quay. The coast guard keep a very nice fast patrol boat in this harbour.

A shelter opposite by Kaş Municipality building, managed by local administration, has mooring capacity up to 20 visiting boats.

MOORING
The harbour master will direct you to a berth, most likely on the breakwater side of the harbour. This harbour is shared with Gullets, some of which are over 150 feet long. The harbour looks quite wide but pay close attention to the anchor chains of the larger moored boats as you work your way in, there is not a lot of room to maneuver with chains out on both sides of the harbour.

Anchor out and stern tie. Try not to put out too much chain, to avoid catching it on the anchors of boats on the other side of the harbour.

ABOUT KAŞ
An important town during the Hellenistic and Roman periods, Kaş is full of rich history dating back to 900 BC when it was known by its old Lycian name, Antiphellos. Deriving from the Greek word "Phellos", meaning stony place, the name is perfectly suited to Kaş. Throughout the Roman and Byzantine periods the town reached the height of its importance in the world of sea trading and commerce, whilst the Roman Era made Kaş renowned for its exported sea sponges.

Kaş become known as Andifli during the period of the Anatolian Seljuks, later becoming part of the Ottoman Empire. In modern Turkish, the name Kaş means "eyebrow" or "that which is curved" which alludes to the backdrop of 500 m high cliffs encasing the town from behind.

Today one of the most appealing features of Kaş is its proximity to the Greek Island of Kastellorizon. At only a few miles away you can sail across and enjoy a beautiful day experiencing the Island. The world famous Patara Beach, Sunken City and Kekova, St. Nicholas Church are only half an hours distance from Kaş town centre.
