Gemlik is a harbor town bordering the Sea of Marmara, at approximately 30 km from Bursa, 40 km from Yalova and not far from Istanbul. The harbour is one of the most important in Turkey. Gemlik is surrounded by Katırlı mountains Orhangazi region from east and gulf from west, from North Samanlı Mountains and from south wavy earth surfaces of Bursa.

Gemlik is the oldest settling area in Bursa city and its' date of foundation leans on Aragonots in A.D. XII. Century. Gemlik is a unique place which was the mentioned Heredot’s legendary. Kara Murat Pasha captured Gemlik in 1333.

Name of Gemlik means a port where ships berth and a place of ship construction. Gemlik is the first yard of Turkish shipbuilders. Timbers which were coming from Inegöl were carried from Gemlik port to Istanbul. Bozburun was a region for manufacturing of oar.

Gemlik’s bordered by single and partly old chain of mountains just western part of Gemlik opens to always smooth and blue waters of Marmara Sea. Gemlik gulf feature generally is no wavy much and smooth. Gemlik Gulf with 35 km length from east to west, 10-15 km the width from north to south has a two fore land consequently it’s not much wavy sea.

Most of people have been working in agricultural business as a farmer here in Gemlik because of its agricultural works is plenty developed here in Gemlik. Growing of Apples, Peaches and Pears has begun in the last years.

Gemlik’s future of earth is convenient for every kind of vegetables which has been growing for making  be canned food in environs of Gemlik for  example: artichokes, fresh bean, tomatoes, cucumber, eggplant, pepper, pea.

HISTORICAL SITE
In Kurşunlu, there is a village above the hills called Gündoğdu and an ancient monastery called Hagios Aberkios lies within its neighborhood. This monastery is thought to have been built by the ancient Greeks before the Ottoman period. But it is not known by the public and lies there abandoned. According to the new project of the Kurşunlu municipality it is declared that the Hagios Aberkios will soon be turned into a museum.
