Şile Harbour lies on the Black Sea coast of Turkey. It provides good all round shelter. Şile has a large former fishing harbour with a conspicuous castle on of flying rocks offering good shelter and excellent beaches for exploring. Just 70 km away from the city center, Şile’s widespread sandy beaches host the remains of a Genoese Castle attracting many visitors.
It is a delightful holiday center, close to Istanbul, offering excellent fish restaurants and hotels. The hilly town gives good exercise to the boat-bounded and around each corner a new vista appears. Many of the older buildings are being restored and a pleasant park and outdoor theatre has been constructed along the river which flows into the harbour.
Approach & Entrance
The headland is prominent and the breakwater can easily be seen. Care is needed in strong NW winds due to shallow water.
Berths : Alongside the quay or another vessel. Or anchor out in the harbour.
Anchor
One can anchor outside the harbor there can be an uncomfortable swell. In quiet conditions it is possible to anchor just west of the harbour. It is best to enter the harbor and anchor off in 6 m, just to the right of the W jetty or just west of the small internal fishing harbour. The bottom is full of weed and while the holding is good the chain will be completely coated by a thin green weed the consistency of cotton candy.
The south side of the harbour is very shallow. The break water has been recently extended so that there is a smaller entrance to the harbour. Some guides indicate a very shallow entrance and that you must enter if you have a draft of more than 2m on the northern side. As at July 2011 the middle of the entrance to the harbour is 5 m.

RESTAURANTS
Cafes have built small jetties where a yacht could tie up and around the harbour are may cafes and restaurants serving excellent fish. Some restaurants close to the harbour and more in the town. There are a number of bars and restaurants with sea views, especially in the little park around the lighthouse.
There is also a very nice picnic area, which belongs to the municipality, on the entrance to the district. If you turn left before the entrance to Şile and drive for about 2 km you'll arrive at Kumbaba (Sand Father). This is a camping area with a marvelous beach and fine sand where you can find changing cabins, showers, toilettes and a small buffet selling refreshments and sandwiches.
BEACHES
Surrounded by sandy beaches, Şile is a popular holiday resort and the water is clean for swimming. Sand dunes backed by pine forests extend for miles along the coast line. The sand is said to have a healing effect on rheumatism and sciatica.
Şile shares the same sea conditions as other Black Sea towns where strong sea undercurrents can be dangerous to inexperienced swimmers. There is insufficient danger warning and people drown here regularly.

Turkey to the south, west and north. With over 8,333 km of coastline along the four seas, Turkey is a treasure chest of coves, inlets, bays and beaches at which yachtsmen can choose a different, private anchorage each night.
Sailing in Turkey also allows visitors to experience the hospitality of the people in the coastal villages and towns. The tempered winds blowing from west and northwest make the long summers ideal for yachting, and seem to encourage an appreciation of nature. From some of the turquoise coast's unspoilt and sheltered bays you can see mountain peaks rising to almost 3000 meters above sea level.
