Çukurcuk Limanı is layover port for those crusing north or southward. Çukurcuk Limanı is not surrounded by hills or mountains, it lies on flat landscape. Prevailing wind sends swell in. The bottom is sand. The bay provides shelter against northerly blowing winds, but open to southerlies.
Çukurcuk Limanı is at the northwest end of the Güllük Gulf. There are sections of the coves that are shut off from the winds. There are two anchorages here. The E and the W creeks. Clear water. Anchor in 2 - 4 m. Shelter is reasonably good from the prevailing northerlies, although a swell creeps round the corner.
You can find shelter for northern winds in the bay, but it is open to southern ones. On the west side of the port, it can be found a shelter from southern winds.
Anchorage is possible in the depth of 4 meters. Also you can drop your anchor in the middle of the cove in depth of 5 meters but the undercurrent may shelve ashore. In the cove on the east, you can also drop your anchor around 6 meters depth, but the bottom can be shallow.
On this side, you can find a summerhouse area. In the summerhouse area, there is a grocery shop and some provisional services can be holded in here. Çukurcuk Limanı expresses flat geographical form, there is not hills or mountains in the region so wind can send swell in. The seabed is sand. You can see the treatment plants of Didim Town.
The cove in E is shallow and in the end of the cove there is a summerhouses complex. Boats can be also anchored in the depth of 6 meters in the cove on E, but the bottom also comes up shallow. A summer residential site is located on this part. There is a grocery shop within summer site zone, some provisions can be found here.
The small cove in the W has been closed by a fish farm. Boats anchor in the centre of the cove. The environment is peaceful and beautiful. The cove on the W provides safe sheltering from southerlies. You can drop your anchor in the depth of 4 meters. You can be also anchored in the depth of 5 meters in the cove in the middle, but the depths gently shelve ashore.

GPS : 37°21'13.8"N 27°11'32.1"E / 37.353834, 27.19223
Those who take a walk to the lighthouse on the point will be able to see ancient mosaics that are partly covered by soil. After five kilometers the road from the cove meets the main road. From there onwards a tour to Didim, Milet and the ancient city of Priene is an option.
Didim Town purification units can be easliy recognized. Regular transport services are available to Didim (6 km).
Çukurcuk Limanı is a stopover spot for those cruising north or southernly and it is a popular place for esplanade especially on weekends as inhabitants from Didim can visit for swimming.

Altınkum or “golden sands” is a resort town in western Turkey, 123 km from Aydın. It is on the Aegean Sea, nearby the ancient Temple of Apollo and the ruins of the Ionian city of Didyma (Didim).
Altınkum or Skrophes Bay or Karakuyu is a popular resort and a an excellent place to leave the yacht for a visit to Didyma. Anchor in the NW corner in 3 - 4 m on sand. Good holding and shelter from the meltemi. The shore lies to the south, it provides sheltering from northerlies. The bottom is sand and relatively clear. Westerly blowing winds are predominant. Breeze usually blows between west and northwest.
Caution :Care is needed for the sea-level reefs running out about 400 meters from the pier on the west.
Do not approach directy to the pier on the west. Take route towards the middle, leave the reefs on your port side then alter your course to the port. Custom building stands behind the pier. This pier is for tripper boats, it gets very crowded especially in summer.
We suggest boats either to go to D-Marin or drop anchor in front of the beach and swing. Nights are noisy especially in summer because of holiday makers. Water gets cold in some parts, there are underground water sources and circulations.

HISTORICAL SITES
Ancient Didyma
The Hellenistic Ionic temple of Apollo at Didyma is very large, impressive, and in good preservation. Here was an oracle of Apollo, the most renowned in antiquity after the oracle of Delphi. A must see site. The famous Apollon Temple at Didyma is worth visiting. All provisions can be found in the town.
Altınkum and Didim (previously Didyma or Yenihisar) is surrounded by a number of ancient sites, most notably, the Apollo Temple, located on the outskirts of Didim. The main temple was built in the 8th century B.C., was surrounded by columns at the beginning of the 6th century B.C. and completed around 550 B.C.
According to some sources, "Didyma" translates as "twin". It refers to the twin God and Goddess, Apollo and Artemis, who were born here. Didyma was originally home to a pre-Greek religious group of nomads that grew up around a sacred wood and holy spring. This natural spring was the place where Leto conceived and gave birth to the twins Artemis and Apollo who were fathered by Zeus.
The town of Didim takes its name from the ancient site of Didyma. Never actually a city, Didyma is a very impressive archaeological site all the same and was used for pilgrimages and religious worship by the Ionions who built most of the structures in the 11th century BC. The history of the place goes back even further than that though because it’s believed there has been a shrine at this site for hundreds of years before the Ionions came.
This Temple of Apollo, who the Ionions were worshipping, is still impressive and large despite having crumbled due to earthquakes. As you enter the site, look out for the fallen head of Medusa that’s become the unofficial symbol and mascot of Didyma.
Miletus and Priene
Only a short distance from the beaches of Altinkum you’ll come across two more ancient archaeological sites, Miletus and Priene, both of which have something a little different to offer to the other. These are within a short drive of Didim and Altınkum.
Ephesus
Of course the prize archaeological site in this part of Turkey is the ancient city of Ephesus. If you’re thinking you’ve seen one ancient city so all others will be the same - think again. From the towering façade of the Library, to the immense amphitheatre, and its long city streets, Ephesus is well worth a visit.

Saplı Island that is streching like a bridge between its body and the shore is a distinct beauty of nature.
Hippedamos which belongs to BC 6th century on Saplı Island was destroyed later time. Despite the fact that the city walls around the settlement were destroyed by the sea, it is possible to see the ruins of the walls in some places.
Actually Saplı Island is a peninsula. There is a sea road in the sea for a vehicle to pass out easily. It is possible to pass out to the island by foot on the ebb tide and when the sea rises the land and island can be disconnected.
The island is similar to a coffee pot when viewed from above and is a perfect option for excellent beaches. The island is not only a piece of land but also like a balcony that is juttin into the sea. With the smells of the sea and the land in spring, it is becoming a privillage tolive in Akbük.
