Bodrum (from Petronium), formerly Halicarnassus (Turkish: Halikarnas), is a Turkish port town in Muğla Province, in the southwestern Aegean Region of the country. It is located on the southern coast of Bodrum Peninsula, at a point that checks the entry into the Gulf of Gökova, and it faces the Greek island of Kos. Today, it is an international center of tourism and yachting.
The city was called Halicarnassus of Caria in ancient times. The Mausoleum of Mausolus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was here. Bodrum Castle, built by the Crusaders in the 15th century, overlooks the harbor and the International Marina.

Creperie : Creperie is located within the shopping precinct of Bodrum’s most sophisticated marina complex, Bodrum Milta Marina. We cater throughout the year to yachts and both Turkish and foreign tourists, providing breakfasts, lunch, evening meals and a bar service.
Marina Yacht Club - La Vela Italian Restaurant : Marina Yacht Club is one of the most steady managements in Bodrum with its three restaurants and four bars. It gives service for 12 months of year.
BODRUM OFFSHORE SAILING CLUB
Bodrum Offshore Sailing Club (B.A.Y.K.) has been founded in 2001 to gather lovers of sailing sport. As a sailing club, we aim to encourage beginners from all ages to take up the sport of sailing by providing trainings. Our goal is to promote and facilitate the sport of sailing in Turkey and bring it up to international standards while organizing races that support both sailing sport and tourism. We also intend to develop the friendship and support between Turkish and foreign sailors and make Bodrum the center of sailing sport at Aegean.
SEA RESCUE
Our aim; is to strive for intervening the disasters of any nature and the accidents efficiently both under and above water eventually to occur in Bodrum and its environs. Bodrum Sea Rescue was established in 1999 with the support of Milta Bodrum Marina and volunteers who specialize in sea activities. Bodrum Sea Rescue is the first sea rescue unit in Turkey. Since 2001, Bodrum Sea Rescue has been the Bodrum representative of Seamen Support Association of Turkey.
The unit consists of commercial divers, diving instructors, emergency rescue medical doctors as well as captains. The purpose of Bodrum Sea Rescue is to provide the fastest and most medically efficient response to all underwater and maritime accidents. The unit works closely with Coast Guard authorities as well as Class I Offshore powerboat races and any maritime events.
VOLUNTEER TEAM
We are 34 persons, We are all professional scuba-divers, In our team, there are 1 paramedic, 6 doctors whom 3 of them are educated in the field of emergency intervening, We all had first aid courses and regularly take part in drills and seminars in order to upgrade our skills and knowledge, In any case of emergency, we are able to be ready within maximum 10 minutes, Each rescue team consist of a captain, two scuba-divers and a doctor.

THE MARINA YACHT CLUB
The Marina Yacht Club has been providing year-round service in Bodrum for many years now. The complex is located at the entrance to the Bodrum Marina, presenting a unique atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. The original bars and restaurants have been popular meeting places for sailors, writers, artists in fact anyone and everyone who enjoys good food and good music in a relaxed atmosphere. Whit three restaurants and four bars which now covers a total area of 1800 m2 and caters for up to 700 diners. Service continues throughout the day starting with breakfast and ending with late night snacks.
BEACH
The east half of the town has a long thin but reasonable beach, which has been added in the last few years, with the Authorities trying and largely succeeding in creating a good beach.
ENTERTAINMENT
Behind the beach lay all the bars restaurants and night clubs that are typical of Mediterranean resort towns. This means open fronted bars that do not come alive until 10 pm when everybody goes out. As well as some nice beach fronted bars (e.g. cafe del mar being a reasonably chilled out and attractive bar, with attractive staff so that helps) it also has some terrible ones, if you do not like the hard drinking culture of some Tourists. It does have some reasonable clubs. Halikarnas being the obvious one as it is huge (4000 people). It also is mostly outdoors and hosts foam parties on regular occasions.
Bodrum Marine Club is a club built into a large boat. The boat is a catamaran style, with a glass deck for the dance floor. At night the boat sets out to a point in the harbour where lights have been set into the ocean floor, pointing up. The local fish have learned that this is a good spot to hang out and get scraps thrown overboard, and you can see them swimming along under the dance floor.
SHOPPING
The other half of the town is the west side. This mainly revolves around the Marina and Yacht Club. Here life is a little more sedate with shops catering mainly to those who have stepped of their boats. Expensive supermarkets with proper wine and olive oil as well as the obligatory Helley Hanson to be able to purchase your new jacket. There are a number of nice restaurants if you look hard enough and some good clothes shops. Like all resorts being directly on the sea front increases the prices. During the evenings there is a wonderful atmosphere as the locals and tourists all seem to promenade along the sea front.
DIVING
There are many diving clubs doing daily scuba diving tours all around the region, fees usually include lunch and snacks prepared on boat.
WINDSURFING
There are some good possibilities for windsurfing at nearby Vass. It has a bit of a hippy air to it with lots of hire stands for boards and sails. Some may find there are just too many people around in high season for it to be much fun, especially when there are competitions running.
MUSEUM OF UNDERWATER ARCHEOLOGY
The castle grounds includes a Museum of Underwater Archeology and hosts several cultural festivals throughout the year. In 1962 the Turkish Government decided to turn the castle into a museum for the many underwater discoveries of ancient shipwrecks in the Aegean Sea. This has become the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, with a vast collection of amphoras, ancient glass, bronze, clay, iron items.
It is the biggest of its kind devoted to underwater archaeology. Most of its collection dates from underwater excavations after 1960. These excavations were performed on several shipwrecks :
Flags of the Ottoman empire on the castle walls. Finike-Gelidonya shipwreck (12th c. BC) : 1958 - 1959 ; first underwater dig in Turkey, showing that Near Eastern merchant ships played a much greater role in the Bronze Age than previously known.
Bodrum-Yassıada shipwreck (Byzantine, 7 th c. AD) : 1961 - 1964 ; Roman merchant vessel with 900 amphoras.

Tektaş glass wreck (5th c. BC) : (1996-2001)
Collection of amphoras from different parts of the Mediterranean. The former chapel houses an exhibition of vases and amphoras form the Mycenaean age (14-12th c. BC) and findings from the Bronze Age (around 2500 BC). The many commercial amphoras give a historical overview of the development of amphoras and their varied uses.
The Italian Tower houses in the Coin and Jewelry Hall a large collection spanning many centuries. Another exhibition room is devoted exclusively to the tomb of a Carian princess, who died between 360 and 325 BC. The collection of ancient glass objects is one of the four biggest ancient glass collections in the world.
Two ancient shipwrecks have been reconstructed : the Fatımi ship, detected as sunken 935 years ago, and the large Uluburun Shipwreck from the 14th century BC.
The garden inside the castle is a collection of almost every plant and tree of the Mediterranean region, some of which have a mythological significance : the myrtle was dedicated to Aphrodite; the shadow of the plane tree was sought after by kings and noblemen, as it was thought to strengthen one's health.
LANDMARKS
Bodrum Castle
The Castle of St Peter (Bodrum Kalesi). Built from 1402 by the Knights Hospitaller, the Castle is easily the most prominent landmark in the city. The castle now operates as a museum, with the focus on the Museum of Underwater Archaeology (see below). It is one of the world's best preserved monuments dating back to medieval times. The supervision of the construction of the castle was assigned to the German architect Heinrich Schlegelholt, so that the latest developments in castle design were included. The castle is quite pretty and the views are spectacular.
The Bodrum Amphitheatre
The Bodrum Amphitheatre is another ancient structure accredited to the reign of King Mausolus, although it wasn't completed until the Roman era. The theatre is another witness to the great past of Bodrum, and it is one of the best preserved structures of ancient Halicarnassus. You can find this site on the road to Gümbet
Windmills in Bodrum
One of the many sights in the Bodrum peninsula are the white windmills, which were made of stone and lined with wooden planks. These windmills were used from the mid 18th century until the 70s as a means to grind flour. Seven windmills can be found on a hill between Bodrum and Gümbet, at the road to Turgutreis and a lot of windmills can be found around the former fishing port Yalıkavak. These historical mills on the Bodrum Peninsula are currently being restored to attract local and foreign tourists.
