KAMERİYE ADASI PHOTOGRAPHS ALBUM
Selimiye is a village in Marmaris District, Muğla Province, Turkey. It belongs to the municipality of Bozburun, in the Bozburun peninsula. Selimiye is a pretty village on the Bozburun Peninsula, 35 km away from Marmaris. The Bozburun Peninsula is a national park so protected against high rise tourist developments and over development seen elsewhere in Kalkan and Kaş.
Many of the restaurants have tables that overlook the bay so you can enjoy a delicious meal next to the crystal-clear blue waters, or explore the historical ruins of three castles from the ancient city of Hydas. Selimiye is peaceful fishing village that seems to flow along a stunning bay, just along the coast from Turgutkoy and Orhaniye.
A beautiful bay surrounded by mountains, with wonderful clear blue sea and a unique waterfront. You can go on the small jetty in the village, or phone ahead and go on to Aurora's or Sardunia's jetty. Once you have got your yacht safely moored, then take a wander to explore all that Selimiye can offer you. Whether you want to just sit with a beer, have a wonderful meal, explore the excellent little shops selling really unusual jewelery, gifts or clothes, the choice is yours.
For such a small village, there are an abundance of places to eat and drink. Sardunia restaurant is renowned in Turkey by the Turkish, they travel all the way from Istanbul to stay and eat there. Superb fish cooked in a mound of salt is one of its specialities but whatever you eat, you will really enjoy. The atmosphere is wonderful, buzzing with many happy people and the staff are great. In August, it's best to book 2-3 days in advance as it is so popular.
Aurora is another lovely location to eat, right on the waterfront with Hussein and Suzanne giving you a warm welcome. They provide a wonderful Turkish Breakfast, which if you have never tried, you must! Also voted in the top three restaurants of our clients, one of their most popular evening dishes is cheesy beef. Strips of fillet beef wrapped around mozarella cooked on a skewer, and tastes as good as it looks.
Cere's coffee house sells an excellent fresh lemonade, probably the best coffee in the village as well as her delicious home made cakes.
After Selimiye Koyu and before arriving at Dirsekbükü, there is Kameriye Adası, Kocaada and Kargı Adalan. Anchoring is possible in these islands.
KAMERİYE ISLAND
GPS : 36°44'00.3"N 28°03'22.0"E / 36.733420, 28.056103
Is a place where you can enjoy an early morning anchor and swim or snorkel on the southern side of the island. You will often see some interesting fish swimming close to shore and around the yacht.
This was a small but thriving Greek community stretching around the south and south east side of the island. There are some great Greek ruins that have a small Orthodox church built within a larger one from earlier times. There is an old Greek church and a monastery in the South of Kameriye Adası.You can also see some mosaic flooring and a cistern well. Often goats will join you in rambling over the ruins.
In good weather you can anchor on the south side for a stroll ashore or swim stop. Kameriye is ideal for a lunchtime anchorage, but close by are many other great bays to overnight in such as Sailor’s Paradise or Dirsek Bay.

"The early summer wind had blown steadily out of the northwest, as it often did in the Aegean, but now, just as they were approaching the entrance to the harbor, the wind veered abruptly to the northeast. They would not make the harbor. The captain turned west to run before the sqall for the shelter of Crescent Island, but he did not count on the sudden shift in wind jibing the sail and cracking the yard. Unable to sail and being blown onto a rocky lee shore, he had no option but to anchor and wait out the wind or make repairs. First one anchor was dropped, and then another, but the channel was deep with a sloping bottom, and the anchors would not bite..."
"How can we know the details of a wreck that happened more than 1,000 years ago? The sailors are long gone, only the bottom of the ship survives, and the cargo, amphoras that once contained wine, seems uniform and unremarkable. Partly it is from our own experience of four summers on the same rocky spur, excavating the shipwreck. We are sailors too..." - Fred Hocker

Ada Boğazı is the prettiest and coolest anchorage in the gulf, it looks like a moon under Kızıl Ada on the east, Kiseli Ada on the west and mainland on the north. Northern tips of both islands towards to mainland are shoal. There are 2 m depths in the narrow passage on the northern side of Kızıl Ada, but this passage should be attempted only by sailor acquinted with the area. Two sand banks extend 200 m N of Kızıl Ada.
If you are approaching from N of Kızılada, keep 30 m off the tip to maintain 4 m depth line. Boats anchor along the shore toward Kızılada passage. The depth shelves toward the point. There is good protection from prevailing winds.
The bottom is so clear, it is hard to believe that you are not going to touch bottom. You can observe many hues of blue here. The setting is wonderful. Do not miss lingering in this beautiful place.
You can get provisions by dinghy from Bozburun 1.3 Nm.

SÖĞÜT COVE ANCHORAGE
Söğüt, Marmaris - Muğla - Turkey
GPS : 36°37'58.0"N 28°04'15.1"E / 36.632769, 28.070847
PHOTOGRAPHS ALBUM
Söğüt is located at the far end of the Bozburun Peninsula and is best reached by following the road from Bayır. Söğüt is probably the most beautiful and unspoilt village on the northern coast of the peninsula. The settlement is quite sizeable and is spread over a broad area with the biggest portion of the village based inland and surrounded by mountains. The remaining villagers live along the huge backdrop which overlooks the island in the bay.
The bay of Söğüt provides exceptionally calm protected waters so is popular with yacht cruises that pop into the bay during a cruise to the local Greek Islands of Symi, Tilos and Rhodes. Here they are able to stock up on supplies as well as enjoy the wide range of restaurants that dot the coastline.
The views here really are stunning. You can see the end of the Bozburun peninsula where the ancient settlement of Loryma is located, as well as the islands of Zeytin and Söğüt. In the far distance there is the Greek island of Simi. A small village in a large bay. Situated at the Eastern end of the gulf of Symi this large attractive bay is a great place to snorkel.

The beach is wonderfully unspoilt with a handful of dwellings lining the shore. It boasts incredible views across the inky blue waters out to the Greek island of Symi - by nightfall, you can see the island’s lights in the distance. Close to the shore are several beachfront restaurants which serve the most delightful meals, including traditional Turkish breakfasts - breads, pastries, fresh fruit and juices, yoghurt, local honey, olives and cheeses - and in the evenings the most sublime tasting fish, simply cooked with lemon juice and olive oil, which tastes out of this world.
The platforms and jetties which lead off the beach are a perfect spot to relax with a good book, or to jump from into the water for a cooling dip. In the far corner are a host of rocky outcrops which provide some good snorkelling. Looking up into the tree lined hills that rise above the beach you will spot a small road that leads over the mountains into the Sögüt's second bay with a restaurant perched at the top, another incredible spot to appreciate the beautiful sunsets which reflect across the bay.
Octopus Restaurant
Twenty yacht can be tie up at the long jetty at a depth of 2.5 - 5 m. Facilities available are electricity, water, showe and WC as well as internet (WLAN on the jety) and daily wheather reports. The restaurant also offer shopping possibilties, the attached pension has 12 rooms. You can do watersports, there is a small beach, suitable for snorkeling and within swimming range you can discover some ancient amphoras lying on the sea bed.
The kitchen offers al kinds of seafood and various meat casseroles. Specialities of the house include grilled, fired or stuffed calamari (fresh from the region) and octopus. You will also find a selection of Turkish wines.
The jetty itself is concrete and one of the strongest restaurant jetties you will find. It is a single sided jetty, effectively. As you approach it, go to port, as the other side is too shallow for anything but small boats, but good for a swim. It is easy to identify, and found by turning to port after entering Sogut bay. The Octopus is in the northern bay, together with another small restaurant with a short jetty which was installed in 2010. The southern bay has a hotel/restaurant which also has a jetty, usable by about four boats.
Regular minibus services are available to Bozburun 8 km and Marmaris 44 km.
One kilometre to the south west of Söğüt there are the remains of the ancient settlement of Thyssanos. The beautiful landscape of Saranda Cove is even more stunning when the sun sets and you are able to see across to the big Greek island of Sömbeki (Symi). There are restaurants and hotels here to accommodate visitors. The ruins of an ancient fortress lie on the southern shore of the cove and you will see hundreds of pieces of amphora scattered on the sea bed.
MOORING
The small hillside village of Söğüt lies near the head of a large bay on the eastern side of Söğüt Adası, within easy reach of sixteen small uninhabited islands heavy with the scent of wild oregano. The craggy, burnt slopes about the bay have a savage, rugged, wild aspect and the ruins of an ancient fortress, thought to be ancient Thyssanus, sit atop a rocky knoll nearby.
Saranda is a waterfront extension of the village that has developed on the shore of the lagoon but the rigorous conservation laws that apply to this stretch of the coastline have ensured that development has been strictly controlled and Söğüt remains charmingly unspoilt. One imagines that life has changed little here in hundreds of years. Blue bee hives are a recurrent feature on the landscape, their occupants hard at work producing the thyme-scented honey for which the region is famed.
Sit on the rickety restaurant jetty and watch the fishing boats return after sunset laden with bream and sea bass. Boat building is the other principal activity here - many of the gulets that cruise the Turquoise coast are built here. There’s a weekly market on Monday where visiting charterers can stock up on provisions before setting sail again, reluctant to leave this charming and low-key hideaway.
Anchor in the north-east cove, in 5 metres (16 feet). The bottom is sand and weed and the holding is not always good.
