Turunç is located on the eastern side of the Bozburun (Loryma) Peninsula. Turunç is believed to have been in existence as a village for just over 100 years. It takes its name from the citrus fruits that at one time covered the village (Turunç literally means "bitter orange") and which are thought to have been introduced to the area from the nearby Greek island of Rhodes. Turunç is situated about 20 km distance from Marmaris. Turunç village lies on the edge of a horse shoe shaped bay of crystal clear blue water, surrounded by tree covered mountains.
Whilst many people think of sun, sand and sea when they come to Turunç, the village itself is an enjoyable experience in its own right. It's compact enough to walk leisurely from one end to the other in less than half an hour - depending on how often you stop to browse in shops, take refreshments or socialise with the many friends you are bound to meet. At nights, the main street is closed to traffic and it's a great time for just strolling and relaxing.
It is located 20 km (12 mi) south of Marmaris on the Mediterranean sea, surrounded by the Taurus Mountains. The area is a former fishing village, and has been populated since ancient times as the sea offers a variety of precious resources. Despite the region's fast development in recent years, the natural beauty Turunç has been preserved. As a resort, the village has won the Blue Flag award in recognition of its clean beach and water quality. The size of Turunç is about 1 km (0.62 mi), taking half an hour to walk from one side to the other.
QUAY
Turunç Bay indents to the west between points; Zeytin Burnu and Sarp Burnu. The bay is open to E. Turunç Bükü and/or Turunç Koyu affords sheltering from breeze. Strong westerlies send swell in. There are isolated rocks around Sarp Burun and there are rocky patches on the northern part of the bay, in the vicinity of point; Dümbek Burnu. Care is required.

The creek on the SE is the best shelter to be tucked up. The swimming area is cordoned off with buoys. Turunç Municipality has placed 20 floating moorings. You can pick up and swing. Submarine communication cables are on the northern corner. Three yellow buoys indicate the cable line, one buoy flashes.

A stream goes into sea on the southern side. There is a concrete quay with berthing capacity up to 70 boats. This quay gets crowded during the day. Yachts arrive in late afternoon and leave before noon the next day. The municipality administrates the quay and charges berthing fee. The bottom is weed. Care is needed while anchoring, ease your chain as much as possible and make sure your anchor dug in well. Water and electricty connections are available. Fuel can be obtained from tanker-truck.

BEACH
Turunç is justifiably proud of its Blue Flag beach. Facing east, the beach runs from the relatively undeveloped north-end to the harbour at the south. Sun beds and cushions are available at no charge and, at the south end, the beach is backed by bars and restaurants which will serve you refreshments and meals throughout the day. The water is crystal clear and there are plenty of choices for water sports if you want to do more than just relax and listen to the gentle sounds of the waves.
The beaches are sand and shingle and offer great swimming in calm, sheltered waters. There is a promenade for wandering along and a small quay for visiting yachts. Enjoying the beach with such a spectacular backdrop as the pine clad mountains is hard to beat.

The azure waters of the Mediterranean, the Aegean, and the Black Sea, as well as the Sea of Marmara, surround There are marinas, yacht building boatyards, yachtsmen hotels, yacht clubs, yacht technical services. Turkey to the south, west and north. With over 8,333 km of coastline along the four seas, Turkey is a treasure chest of coves, inlets, bays and beaches at which yachtsmen can choose a different, private anchorage each night.
Sailing in Turkey also allows visitors to experience the hospitality of the people in the coastal villages and towns. The tempered winds blowing from west and northwest make the long summers ideal for yachting, and seem to encourage an appreciation of nature. From some of the turquoise coast's unspoilt and sheltered bays you can see mountain peaks rising to almost 3000 meters above sea level.
