Sailing in Turkey also allows visitors to experience the hospitality of the people in the coastal villages and towns. The tempered winds blowing from west and northwest make the long summers ideal for yachting, and seem to encourage an appreciation of nature. From some of the turquoise coast's unspoilt and sheltered bays you can see mountain peaks rising to almost 3000 meters above sea level.

Kuşadası Marina is close to the centre of the town with all facilities within walking distance. There are tenniscourts and a swimming pool available to yacht crews. The marina is part of the Setur portfolio

Kuşadası is a tourism and shopping center for tour operators and a cruise destination. There are several good beaches close by and the marina is a good base from which to explore the many sites of antiquity. The marina is very close to Ephesus, one of the most famous and the best preserved antique sites of the world.

The Approach
A shallow rocky reef that extends 200 m in a western direction from the root of the outer mole of the marina called Akburun Kayası. Care must be taken for westerly approaches. Another reef is named Petroma Kayası (rocky reef). This reef with submerged rocky patches extends in a westerly direction about half a mile from Yılancı Burnu.

When approaching Kuşadası from the south or west (e.g. having passed through the Straits of Samos), a yacht should be sure to pass well offshore of the headlands of Karga Burnu and Yalancı Burnu to the S of Kuşadası, both of which have reefs extending some distance offshore. A new W cardinal buoy is now in position off Yalancı Burnu, about one mile SW of Bird Island (the conspicuous island with a small castle on it on the S side of Kuşadası harbour).

A course 100 metres W of this buoy will clear all the dangers. Note, however, that there is a further shoal patch around 200 metres due N of the Yalancı Burnu buoy where depths shoal to around 5 - 6 metres. This is now marked with a isolated danger mark (black/red/black with two black ball topmarks) and a yacht can pass safely 50 metres on either side. Finally, a further dangerous reef near the root of the marina breakwater is marked with another W cardinal mark.

Maximum depth within the marina is 5 metres and as moorings are laid, you should not drop anchor. 24 hour mooring assistance is provided at the Setur Kuşadası Marina which has a Blue Flag.

As in other Setur Marinas, the Kuşadası Marina boatyard; lifting, launching, and high-pressure washing services as well as all kinds of winter services and periodic maintenance that includes battery charging, bilge control, ventilation, engine running etc. are provided.

Maintenance and repair services provided by workshops within the marina include paint application and care, osmosis protection and treatment, polishing, varnishing, epoxy-polyester work, manufacture and repair of sails, tarpaulins, winter boat covers, bimini canopies and sprayhoods; all kinds of main engine, generator and outboard engine repair and overhauls, carpentry, stainless and galvanized steel work, wooden deck components, furniture manufacture and repairs as well as repair assembly and maintenance of electrical equipment and appliances.

Ephesus, one of the major and best preserved Greco-Roman sites in Turkey, is located nearby, about 20 minutes by car. Ephesus, Turkish: Efes; ultimately from Hittite Apasa) was an ancient Greek city on the coast of Ionia, three kilometers southwest of present-day Selçuk in İzmir Province. It was built in the 10th century BC on the site of the former Arzawan capital by Attic and Ionian Greek colonists.

During the Classical Greek era it was one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League. The city flourished after it came under the control of the Roman Republic in 129 BC. According to estimates Ephesus had a population of 33,600 to 56,000 people in the Roman period, making it the third largest city of Roman Asia Minor after Sardis and Alexandria Troas. The city was famed for the Temple of Artemis (completed around 550 BC), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. In 268 AD, the Temple was destroyed or damaged in a raid by the Goths.

It may have been rebuilt or repaired but this is uncertain, as its later history is not clear. Emperor Constantine I rebuilt much of the city and erected new public baths. Following the Edict of Thessalonica from emperor Theodosius I, what remained of the temple was destroyed in 401 AD by a mob led by St. John Chrysostom. The town was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 614 AD. The city's importance as a commercial center declined as the harbor was slowly silted up by the Cayster River (Küçük Menderes).

Ephesus was one of the seven churches of Asia that are cited in the Book of Revelation. The Gospel of John may have been written here. The city was the site of several 5th century Christian Councils (see Council of Ephesus). It is also the site of a large gladiators' graveyard.

DİLEK NATIONAL PARK
Davutlar is an ideal base to explore and discover the flora and fauna of Turkey as it is close to Dilek national park, a protected area, and home for many species of animal including wild boar. Within the park are many beaches and picnic areas, but experienced hikers should head up into the mountains for further exploration. Davutlar region is marvelous for nature lovers. Dilek peninsula, which is located in the south of Davutlar, is really worth to be seen with its forests, various picnic areas and trekking paths.
