Sailing in Turkey also allows visitors to experience the hospitality of the people in the coastal villages and towns. The tempered winds blowing from west and northwest make the long summers ideal for yachting, and seem to encourage an appreciation of nature. From some of the turquoise coast's unspoilt and sheltered bays you can see mountain peaks rising to almost 3000 meters above sea level.

Ölü Deniz (literally Dead Sea, due to its calm waters even during storms; official translation name Blue Lagoon) is a small village and beach resort in the Fethiye district of Muğla Province, on the Turquoise Coast of southwestern Turkey, at the conjunction point of the Aegean and Mediterranean seas. It is located 14 km (9 mi) to the south of Fethiye, near Mount Babadağ.

Ölü Deniz is truly one of the wonders of the world. Ölü Deniz lies on the east of point; ''Yoğun Burnu''. This lagoon has a long sandy beach behind sand band. Ölü Deniz is a completely land locked and beautiful lagoon. However, it is overrun by tourists and the beach to the east is backed with row upon row of tacky hotels.

Ölü Deniz is protected under preservation programme. Entry to the lagoon and anchoring within it are prohibited to yachts. However, it is possible to anchor in the cove just west of the lagoon entrance and take a line ashore, although the depths here are considerable and the holding variable. It is not a suitable place to stop unless the weather is settled.

Better anchorages are at Gemiler Adası and Karacaören. However, you can tuck yourself into and nearby anchorages and come by dinghy. The cove by Point Yoğun is suitable anchorage. There you can anchor in 20 m take a line ashore.

Ölüdeniz remains one of the most photographed beaches on the Mediterranean. It has a secluded sandy bay at the mouth of Ölü Deniz, on a blue lagoon. The beach itself is a pebble beach. The lagoon is a national nature reserve and construction is strictly prohibited. The seawater of Ölü Deniz is famous for its shades of turquoise and aquamarine, while its beach is an official Blue Flag beach, frequently rated among the top 5 beaches in the world by travelers and tourism journals alike.

Paragliding
Ölüdeniz is also famous for its paragliding opportunities. It is regarded as one of the best places in the world to paraglide due to its unique panoramic views, and Mount Babadağ's exceptional height.

The mountaintop overlooking the bay is a very popular paragliding base and it is common to see scores of gliders circling the harbour. Several concessions in the village offer tandem flights which are a spectacular experience. Mount Baba Dağı - 2000 m is the take off point. The weather and winds are stable during summer. Ölü Deniz Air Games Festival is organized every year in October. Ölü Deniz is a booming spot for para-gliders. They leap from nearby mountaintops, and soar and float above the beach and sea, and finally land right on the beach.

Ultramarathon
Since 2010, an international multiday trail running ultramarathon, called Lycian Way Ultramarathon, is held on the historical Lycian Way. The event runs eastward on a route of around 220-240 km (140-150 mi) from Ölü Deniz to Antalya in six days.
