The azure waters of the Mediterranean, the Aegean, and the Black Sea, as well as the Sea of Marmara, surround There are marinas, yacht building boatyards, yachtsmen hotels, yacht clubs, yacht technical services. Turkey to the south, west and north. With over 8,333 km of coastline along the four seas, Turkey is a treasure chest of coves, inlets, bays and beaches at which yachtsmen can choose a different, private anchorage each night.
Sailing in Turkey also allows visitors to experience the hospitality of the people in the coastal villages and towns. The tempered winds blowing from west and northwest make the long summers ideal for yachting, and seem to encourage an appreciation of nature. From some of the turquoise coast's unspoilt and sheltered bays you can see mountain peaks rising to almost 3000 meters above sea level.

Dirsek Bükü (Ağıl Bükü) is an isolated area along the coast of Turkey. There is no road access. To access this spot, you must sail into the bay. It is about an hour’s sail south from Orhaniye. Dirsek Bükü is a timeless place to anchor and stay overnight. It’s a place that preserves your energy if not replenishes it. The peace, the quiet, the breathtaking scenery and clear waters is ultimately alluring.
Dirsek Bükü lies on the south of the point; Ağıl Burnu. It indents to the west and makes L shape. This bay provides the best sheltering among the coves on the SW coast of Hisarönü Bay. It gets swell penetration from the strong northerlies. The bottom is sand. Good holding.
A pristine unspoiled anchorage with a fine taverna in the SW corner. There is a tiny, local restaurant with a stone pier along the shorefront to tie up, stern in.

GUMUSCAFE FISH RESTAURANT
Gümüşlük, Bodrum - Muğla - Turkey
GPS : 37°03'20.9"N 27°14'05.1"E / 37.055798, 27.234753
PHOTOGRAPHS ALBUM
Gümüşcafe Fish Restaurant established in 1988. The perfect venue for gourmets and romantics in the exceptional setting of quiet and beautiful Gümüşlük Bay. Enjoy high quality food, drink fine wines, whilst sitting by the sea, in the tranquil atmosphere and fabulous scenery of this quiet and historic bay.turkish
Authentic Turkish cuisine with mezes, fish, seafood, casseroles.
A choice of dishes for vegetarians, ovo-lacto vegetarians, and vegans, as well.
Quality Turkish Raki varieties and a wide range of exclusive Turkish wines.
Quick and professional service from the friendly staff.
Breakfast, brunch and a range of snacks are also available.
The term “far from the madding crowd” has always held great appeal for me and is an appropriate way to begin describing the best eatery in Gümüşlük. Down the beach –to right hand side- just a short walk (yet miles apart) from the strip of look-alike restaurants, sits Gümüşcafe Fish Restaurant
.
The term “café” does no justice for this intimate little respite, which, in this writer’s opinion, offers the best of whatever any diner/traveller could want. Whether it is a meal to remember, a quiet place to sit and enjoy the wonderful bay over liquid refreshment or a romantic evening framed by sea sounds!
Excellently orchestrated, Gümüşcafe Fish Restaurant charmingly welcomes visitors to three meals daily. The extensive menu includes, among routinely changing specials, several varieties of both tea and coffee. For a coffee fanatic like myself, discovering true brewed coffee was a rare and special treat.
Though one can never find fault with Turkish Cousine in general or the elegant manner in which Turkish hospitality is usually offered, this restaurant is subtly different from most. Gümüşcafe Fish Restaurant offers diners the perfect marriage of delectable food – always beautifully presented; impeccable service by a well – trained, highly professional, yet personable staff in a warm, comfortable environment, in harmony with Gümüşlük’s unique personality.
Gümüşcafe Fish Restaurant is located near the end of the bay in a building, which once housed the village bakery. The original oven remains.
One can opt to sit at a lovely wooden table directly on the sandy beach, just inches from the sea or under cover on the cosy front terrace. Either choice is enchanting. It is obvious that this business aims to please.

LORYMA RESTAURANT & JETTY
Bozuk Bükü, Marmaris - Muğla - Turkey
GPS : 36°34'35.0"N 28°00'41.9"E / 36.576377, 28.011648

JETTY
Passage Planning
If you are leaving Marmaris Port/Harbour set a southerly rhumb line on 146 (CTS) for 4.6 nm this will get you to headland to allow you then head in a south westerly direction. Set your second rhumb line for 223 (CTS) for approximately 17nm. Finally set a third rhumb line for 301 (CTS) for 2.6 nm this will get you to the entrance of Bozuk Buku. The fortress walls will be visible on the port side at the top of the cliff entrance.
Pilotage Plan
You can sail or motor to Loryma Restaurant. Head up on 321 (CTS) to the very end keeping to the right hand side of the bay. As you arrive Beki or Paul will meet you in our ‘run around’ to offer you either a wet mooring or a pier mooring!
Parking the yacht for the less experienced !!
If you are a bit nervous about mooring up the pier or a wet mooring we will with your granted permission come on board and assist you – no problem. The last thing we want is for you and your crew to get stressed on the last part of your day’s sailing.
Anchorage Details
Tidal movement is general very minimal. The most being approximately 1 m
The depth at the jetty is approximately 8 - 10 metres
The depth on the ‘wet moorings’ is approximately 12 - 15 metres
The Jetty Option
The Jetty mooring allows for 20+ yachts
The Jetty has laid moorings, allowing for yachts to go ‘stern or bows to’ with the option of Loryma staff to assist the skipper with securing the lines if needed. Many Catamarans regularly return to Loryma Restaurant for safe anchorage offering the same options as the ‘mono’s.
Mooring Assistance
Moorings are available. There are several coves within Bozukkale, each with excellent protection from the prevailing westerly winds. The bottom is weedy, so it’s best to only anchor in a sandy patch. Make sure the anchor is well set. Dinghy dockage is available.
Assistance with mooring is offered by the Loryma staff if conditions are challenging or if you have limited experience for both the wet mooring and jetty option. If on the wet mooring we will be in our ‘run about’ holding the mooring line as you approach bows to, for ease of comfort for your crew member.
Ferry Service
Sometimes it is nice not to have to lower the Rib and set up the outboard, for the short ride to the Jetty for dinner etc. Therefore we would be most pleased to ferry you and your crew to and from the Restaurant if this is your desire.
Security
Should the wind get up, or you are concerned about leaving the boat we will keep a 24 hour watchful eye on your yacht on either a wet or jetty mooring in a discrete manner to ensure a peaceful stay.
No charge for moorings!

AFKULE KOYU ANCHORAGE

A ruined monastery high above us on the cliffs. Last year an old coastguard boat was scuppered in the very deep water near here to provide a home for sea creatures, making it a great dive area. Not so far away there are some weirdly wonderful semi-submerged caves, forming part of the headland known as Iblis Burnu, or Devil’s cape.
Diving
This is another fascinating dive site were you first, very slowly, descend to 24 m to enjoy the beautiful scenery before arriving at the entrance of this rather large cavern that is home to the Red small shrimp. After 10 minutes or so you will ascend to 12 m then 4 m and at 200 m you will find the huge entrance of the cave that allows 10 divers easily through at the same time; the cave is so large you will need to kick fins for at least 50 m before reaching the end and when you turn around you can see the sunlight running all around the cave. When you ascend to the surface here you can use a torch to see all the calcium deposits that Mother Nature has made.
This is another great wall dive for drop off lovers and has all the colours and marine life that you would expect to find in the Mediterranean. There is a small cavern full of shrimp at 28 m and the reef wall seems to continue endlessly to the final part of the dive.
This is a great drop-off dive that also features a small cave teeming with shrimp. For beginner through advanced divers, Tarzan Bay is an option. It’s both easy and beautiful, with sundry remains of ancient pottery jars (amphora) visible on the seafloor. Intermediate to advanced divers with a passion for the past may well find Amphora Bay intriguing, which got its name from the large number of Roman pottery jars (circa. 300 B.C.) on the bottom. The slope drops steeply. Rock formations are home to a wide variety of marine creatures, including octopuses, moray eels, and groupers.
Afkule Monastery
GPS : 36°34'46.2"N 29°02'14.2"E / 36.579503, 29.037272
You will see the remains of a monastery 400 m above the sea level, on a hill that slopes into the sea. According to the legend, the 10 m square monastery, known locally as Afkule, was carved into the rock at a cost of a lifetime of suffering by a monk named Ayios Elefeterios. This location has a spectacular view, from which you can see İblis Point, Kurdoğlu Point and, if the weather is fine, even the island of Rhodes.
The nearest location where you can swim in the Kayaköy region is Soğuksu (Cold Water) Cove. Its name does not refer to the temperature of sea but possibly to the spring water boiling into the sea. You can walk from the church following the path up the hill and then down to the water, the stroll taking half an hour.
Perhaps a more rewarding sight is the monastery at Afkule (also spelled Af Kule), clinging at the high cliffs over the sea, and which affords really impressive views over the Gulf of Fethiye, as far away as Rhodes if the air is clear. Other than its roof, this Greek Orthodox monastery is as sound as it was when abandoned in 1920s. To get there, you will need a short (about 3 km) but pretty demanding hike up and down along a trail, part of it, though, fortunately, through a pine forest. In total it takes around an hour on foot to get there from the ghost town.
West of Kayaköy, leave the gravel road to Gemile at where the trail (a dirt track) to Afkule branches off, which is properly marked by yellow signs. At about midway through the trail to Afkule (about 1 km away from where you started), you'll notice a branching track to right - this is the wrong path, keep to the trail to left instead. The trail ends in a open space - carpark for those taking their vehicles along the track. From here, take the wide track to right, which is waymarked with the yellow-red marks usual in the area, and which will slowly ascent to the top of the cliff, which is about 1 km away from the carpark.
Then the trail will descend down to the monastery, but be extremely careful in this section as it is very easy to slip down since the path is covered with loose gravel. Perhaps not for the faint hearted, you can further explore the lower stories of the complex (the church and residences of the monks) once you are in the monastery, though that will require a very steep climb down with the full view of high cliffs down to the coast (a whopping 400 m just below your feet).
It is said, that building of the monastery was his way of doing penance to god in utter solitude and it costs him his whole lifetime. Only god knows, how he managed to accomplish these physical and mental strains and struggles all by himself. Nowadays the monastery is in ruinous condition, but you can access these ruins and you can also proceed into the carved rooms in the rock. The lower ones must have been used as a stable for goats. Amongst the other remaining masonry you'll find 2 chapels and a cistern, which is superior to the monastery.

BUTTERFLY VALLEY COVE ANCHORAGE
Fethiye - Muğla - Turkey
GPS : 36°29'55.6"N 29°07'14.5"E / 36.498780, 29.120706
PHOTOGRAPHS ALBUM
Butterfly Valley is a natural site located at Ölüdeniz, Fethiye district. Surrounded by up to 350 metres of steep rocks, the valley takes its name from more than 80 different species of butterflies that lives here. The waterfall that falls from 50 metres to valley, reaches to Mediterranean as a stream flowing in the middle of the valley.
The valley is isolated from the outside world by steep cliffs and the sea; thus pollution is prevented. Added the environment friendly attitudes of the valley management and the steps taken to protect and preserve the valley made Butterfly Valley kind of a wild life park.
That’s the reason why the valley hosts this vast butterfly population compared to other locations. The most seen species, Jersey Tiger butterflies (Eupoglia Quadripunctaria) lives in moist and hidden corners of Mediterranean; thus the waterfall and the stream are natural habitats for butterflies.
World Heritage Foundation
Butterfly Valley, like Ölüdeniz, Kıdrak and Kabak is one of the coves located at the skirts of Babadağ, which has been declared to be in the list of 100 mountains to be preserved by World Heritage Foundation due to richness of endemic plants. Babadağ and the coves are under legal conservation by Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Board.
Example Model
By the legal preservation status and the unique topography of the valley, Butterfly Valley stayed away from the negative impacts of mass tourism but extra effort is needed against this threat. The perspective of the valley management shows this efforts. Ecological agriculture, ecological tourism, and events like culture – arts – sports are concentrated on. Instead of customer, we have guests or regulars which makes everyone participate. Thus, the valley carry on to be a pioneer and example location in preserving with success.
There are permaculture practices at the valley. In addition you can see many species that grow naturally like oreganos, bays, oleanders, chaste trees, pomegranates, wild grapes, carobs, olives and St. John’s worth plants.
The history of Butterfly Valley, the cooperative and the mission
The Valley has been used as a port for the Perdikya village (today Faralya) in Lycian era (BC 3 – 400). After Byzantian era until Ottoman Greeks, the valley has been used by building houses, church, a road to canyon and sustaining walls.
After the Greek exchange, the land of the valley has been sold to different individuals. In 1960’s one of the land owners, cut down all the old citrus, berry and other fruit trees. The last owner of the valley is Anatolia Tourism Development Cooperative (S.S. Anadolu Turizm Geliştirme Kooperatifi) and since their first time at the valley in 1987, they are trying to grow more trees despite the mountain goats.
Where does the Butterfly Valley name come from?
The local name for the valley is Güdürümsu. In 1987, Hasan Deniz Bayramoğlu began to use the name of Butterfly Valley inspired by a painter, photographer and entomologist Rifat Kılar, who was fascinated by the butterflies and called the place Butterfly Valley.
Since than, the valley is known as Butterfly Valley. The management of the valley, adopted nature compatible life. The managements worked on ecological solutions from organic agriculture practices to biological disposal of sewage water. Since 2015, the valley is managed by Anatolia Tourism Development Cooperative (S.S. Anadolu Turizm Geliştirme Kooperatifi) without renting it to 3rd parties.

Butterfly Valley (Turkish: Kelebekler Vadisi) is a valley in Fethiye district of Muğla Province, southwestern Turkey, which is home to diverse butterfly species. The valley is situated at the foothill of Babadağ, a 1,975 m (6,480 ft)-high mountain nominated for preservation as world heritage.
A wide-strip sand beach at a bay on the Turkish Riviera protrudes from the valley.
In the form of a narrow canyon stretching over around 3 - 4 km (1.9 - 2.5 mi), the valley's steep walls are 350 - 400 m (1,150 - 1,310 ft) high. A trail in the valley leads to two small waterfalls dropping from 60 m (200 ft) all the year around. In the middle of the valley, a creek runs, carrying water from a spring in nearby Faralya village to the sea. A road from Ölüdeniz to Uzunyurt, which is part of the Lycian Way Ultramarathon route, runs atop the rocks around the valley.
The valley, rich in flora and fauna, takes its name from the large number of butterfly species found here. Scientists recorded some 147 flora species belonging to 54 families and 105 butterfly species from 15 families native to the valley. The butterfly species include the Jersey tiger (Euplagia quadripunctaria rhodosensis). Butterfies of many varieties in a wide range of colors can be observed in the valley between June and September.
Due to its natural beauty, Butterfly Valley is an important ecotourism attraction place in Turkey. It is accessible by shuttle boat service from Belceğiz Beach of Ölüdeniz in 5 - 7 km (3.1 - 4.3 mi) distance, operating hourly at daytime. In the valley, various outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, canyoning, canoeing and scuba diving can be performed. The valley is open to public the entire year.
Designated a nature reserve as protected area of first category on February 8, 1995, any type of construction in Butterfly Valley is strictly prohibited by law. Therefore, only temporary structures are allowed here. On an area of 10 daa (10,000 m2), up to 250 people can be accommodated in tents in addition to a few simple wooden bungalows. Central sanitary facilities are for shared use.
There are no accommodation facilities at the Butterfly Valley beach. You can set up a tent or stay in makeshift bush and leaf covered shelters. There is one restaurant set up on the beach in summertime. The owners will help you, showing the paths to follow. Electricity is supplied by a generator, available free of charge during certain times of the day. A small country restaurant and a bar provide food and beverages in the summer time.
Blue Voyage yachts cruise in and drop anchor for lunch and a swim, and hikers pass above the valley along the Lycian Way that leads, farther along, eventually to Antalya.
From the secluded beach at the entrance to the verdant gorge that leads to a 20 m waterfall at the back, the setting is simply delightful. Although there is a well-trodden path to the waterfall it’s a good idea to bring waterproof shoes, as some wading through the streambed is necessary.
The valley is rocky and pine tree covered, is a bit hard for climbing but it gives you an astonishing feeling to see millions of butterflies covering the trees and rocks like a soft colourful scarf. At first, you do not notice them at all and you think it is the natural look of the place. However, with one sound or movement the butterflies take off, covering the sky and casting a shadow over the valley.

ÇÖKERTME COVE ANCHORAGE
Milas - Muğla - Turkey
GPS : 36°59'46.1"N 27°47'33.3"E / 36.996130, 27.79257
PHOTOGRAPHS ALBUM
The Gulf of Gökova, which is the 50 mile deep inlet between the Bodrum peninsula to the north and the Datça peninsula to the south. Çökertme is a favorite layover port for the chartering boats. Çökertme also known as Fesiliyen Koyu or Vasilika. It’s an attractive spot, hemmed in by high precipitous slopes covered with pine trees and olive groves on the lower slopes. The small hamlet perches on the sand at the foot of the slopes and has a reputation for being a welcoming place to stop-over on a Çökertme yacht charter.
Çökertme is a wide cove located on the north side of the Gökova Gulf, between the Kepçe Cape and Karaburun. There is a small village of Çökertme by the shore. The shore is quite long. The region is a well protected area against the strong winds so that the yachts mostly prefer this region for mooring.
The bay takes its the name from village in the harbor. Çökertme is quite sheltered against winds from the west to the north and east. Çökertme is one of the most preferred bays in Gokova by yachtsmen. Its coast is very long, the shores of the island are covered with pines and olive trees.
Çökertme is subject to heritage conservation programme, to preserve its identity. Çökertme still carries some of the charm being fishing and carpet-weaving village. There are carpet and kilim stands in the village. A road goes in for about 3 km to Bozalan Village where you can see carpet-weaving examples and enjoy stupendous view of Çökertme and Gökova.
An excellent sail here today passing Bodrum and some very pretty coastline to Çökertme Koyu, a big inlet with three restaurant jetties. You are bound to find a good bunch of like-minded charterers with whom to shoot the breeze late into the night in one of the waterfront restaurants. There are restaurants with piers along the shore. These piers afford adequate shelter from southerlies. The bottom is weed.
Pine and olive trees surround the bay. the coves by the western end, intending to the north afford sheltering from westerly and northerly blowing winds. You can be anchored in 10 - 15 meters and get aline ashore. The cove on the north is more shallow. Boats can be anchored off in 5 - 10 meters with a line ashore or pushed off if it is not packed.
It is an attractive cove but it is subject to strong gusts. Anchor in 2 - 5 m. The bottom is sand and weed and there could be a problem with holding, so take a line ashore. Alternatively, pick up a laid mooring on one of the three restaurant pontoons. With an onshore southerly it is best to anchor off in the western cove, as big incoming waves make the restaurant pontoons very uncomfortable.
There are several anchorages in the bay. Çökertme provides adequate anchorage from southerlies. Slipways of the village are located here. Reefs extend out from the islet in the middle and the depths on the west of this islet are shallow to the coast. A stream goes into sea.
Village Quay
GPS : 37°00'18.2"N 27°47'29.2"E / 37.005054, 27.791449
A finger tip extends in the middle towards west. A quay and the floating pier of the village here afford the most adequate sheltering. There are laid moorings tailed on pier which provide berthing up to 30 boats. Water and electricty are available. A fee is charged. All the piers in the village are administrated by the village authority.
Boats go stern to piers there laid moorings tailed on. The depths are sufficient at the head of the piers. There are several piers along to shore infront of the restaurants, you can also go stern-to on these piers. Boats also can be pushed off. The bottom is sand. Good holding. Boats can also go up to the shores of the entry of the bay and drop anchor behind shallow area in 10 - 20 m and take a line ashore. This part is quite and ideal for those loving serenity.
Mooring
The best place to anchor is in the western side of the cove with a line ashore to the west side or closer in with a line ashore to the beach.
There are a number of laid moorings which can be used if free.
The bottom is mud, sand and weed with poor holding in places.
In calm weather you can anchor off the hamlet though depths drop off quickly.
Çökertme beach side is on the eastern part where there are restaurants with piers. Staff will help you to tie up. There are laid moorings of restaurants tailed on piers. Southerlies send swell in.
Water and electricity are available. Fuel can be obtained. Limited provisions can be found.
