One of the popular summer resort towns lining the northern coast of the Gulf of Edremit in a succession, Akçay stands out with its ice-cold seawater, due to the freshwater discharge from the seabottom. Akçay (in Turkish: White Creek) is a municipality in the Edremit district of Balıkesir Province in western Turkey. It is located in the Edremit Bay at the coast of north-eastern Aegean Sea, across the Greek island Mitilini.

Akçay is 10 km west of Edremit on the highway to Altınoluk. With its long beach and clear sea, it is a highly popular summer resort for domestic tourists.  The very cool groundwater running into the sea keeps the sea fresh all summer long. Just 10 km from Edremit. It is mainly coastal strip which is partly gravelly. It is famous for its fresh, cold water and artesians which spring up everywhere. The region, famous for its water sources, has very cold underground water.

The town offers you a holiday in a calm and peaceful environment where there are seasonal Bars and restaurants serving drinks by the seaside. You can also find many good restaurants which serve fish and local dishes.

SPA WATERS
The spa in the county of Gönen dates far back into history. Nature has sealed the spa waters at a depth of 275 m separating it from the water at atmospheric level. Therefore, the spring’s water retains its purity and natural qualities and is rarely found in the world.

The Edremit-Güre spas are 3 km from Akçay and the water’s temperature is 65 degrees. The water is beneficial for skin problems, gynaecological diseases, goitre, bone calcification, psoriasis, kidney stones and gravel, and liver diseases.
