Sailing in Turkey also allows visitors to experience the hospitality of the people in the coastal villages and towns. The tempered winds blowing from west and northwest make the long summers ideal for yachting, and seem to encourage an appreciation of nature. From some of the turquoise coast's unspoilt and sheltered bays you can see mountain peaks rising to almost 3000 meters above sea level.

Bozcaada is a small island in the north Aegean, a district of Çanakkale province. The third biggest island in Turkey, it is situated close to the entrance of the Dardanelles. The settlements are clustered around the town centre, in the north east of the island. This is the only village on the island. It has an area of 37.6 km2 and is 38 km in circumference. Bozcaada is the only rural district of Turkey without any villages. It has only one major settlement, Bozcaada town center. The old cobbled streets and districts in the center of the town maintain their traditional architecture. Tenedos, officially referred to as Bozcaada.

Bozcaada is located 12 miles from the Çanakkale Strait, roughly in the shape of a triangle one edge of which is parallel to mainland coast. The sole town of the island lies on its northeastern corner, facing the mainland. The rest of the island is covered by vineyards, scattered pine woods, and Mediterranean shrubland (maquis), dotted by the occasional vineyard manor and, close to the coastline, housing estates used by mainland Turks as vacation homes.  The islanders make their living from viticulture, fishing and tourism.

The island is only 6 km away from the ferry boat pier on the main land. Transportation is provided by ferries, and the journey lasts for half an hour on average. The whole of Bozcaada is a natural and historical preservation and conservation site. No archaeological expeditions have been carried out on the island so far. Yet, it has a rich history carrying the traces of all those diverse civilisations that set foot on it. Bozcaada formerly known as Tenedos whose name is mentioned many a time in mythology, attracts attention not only with its nature but also with its rich history.

HARBOUR

Approach and Navigation
Bozcaada Port is on the northeast side of the island. It lies at foot of the castle. There is 3 meter depth on the quay on the northern part of the entry.

Mooring
There are laid moorings tailed on the quay. Yachts moor stern-to or alongside the quayed breakwater. The ground chain for the mooring lines has been laid some 40 metres off the quay, which means that the angle of the lines when boats are moored to them is very shallow. Be sure to leave a good clearance when passing in front of the bows of moored boats as several yachts have wound up with lines around their props. This port provides adequate shelter except in ESE winds.

Anchorages
It is possible to anchor outside the harbour, clear of the fairway, in settled weather only. With strong winds from any direction, anchoring here is untenable.

BEACHES
Although you can swim even in the small harbor, the beaches are located on the southern part of the island, namely Ayazma and Habbele where you can find some beach cafes around. Renting two deckchairs and a beach umbrella for half a day in Ayazma beach. The fee is collected twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon by employees walking around the deckchairs one by one (not at the entrance). You can of course swim and sunbathe free of charge in nearby areas which are out of the beach club property.

Swimming. Due to freshwater discharges from the sea floor, the seawater in Ayazma beach is shockingly cold, even in the hottest months, which is pretty good for those preferring a (very) refreshing seabath.

BOZCAADA CASTLE
The castle was originally built by Geneoese. It was rebuilt during the era of Sultan Mehmet II. Ottoman navy used this castle as a supply base.  The castle was renovated in 19th century.
The castle has two sections, separated by a water channel. The first part, surrounded by the walls was containing; water storages, clinic, mosque, dormitories, arsenal and fountains. Today, open air museum and ethnographic exhibition are impressive for the visitors.

FISH RESTAURANTS
Definitely fish restaurants. You can see the prices for different kinds of fish on the boards in front of many restaurants. Keep in mind that almost all restaurants in the town gets really crowded between 8 pm and 10 pm and it is almost impossible to find a seat between these hours unless you either, be seated before 8 pm or after 10 pm, or better yet, reserve a seat during the day. Fish Restaurants are very famous with their fishes, cooking and services. Fishes available due to seasons.

CASTLE
The castle, surrounded by sea at one side and by a nowadays-dry (or marshy at best) moat at the others, served for Byzantines, Venetians and Genoans, although there is no evidence indicating who exactly built the castle. Still maintaining its glory, this is one of the castles that are in best condition in Turkey.
