IDA MOUNTAINS
Ida Mountains in the north (Ida), south of the Aegean Sea (Gulf of Edremit) is located. Mitolijide, Trojan-Dikili between the Aegean coast "Coast of Light" is called. Altınoluk; lights on the shore of the beach, at the foot of the legendary Ida Mountain, the sacred olive trees of green-blue Aegean resort to beauty is a lovesick flow. Mount Ida with thousand springs' from the spring water, a fountain flows from a healthy and clean.
Being one of the richest oxygen content places of the world, Kaz Dağları is very healthfully for the patients especially suffering from asthma. Şahinderesi canyon which regulates the air circulation at the region, is also an ideal site for trekking. The waterfalls and the small lakes are the beauties worthy of your remarks and trout fish farms are the places where you can have delicious meals.
CULTURE AND ART FESTIVAL
"Respect for Life" Culture and Art Festival which are organized by the municipality every year on the 1st week of August stiffen the culture and the amity of the citizens of the different regions.
ANTANDRUS HISTORICAL SITE
It is not clear who founded the Greek city of Antandrus. Strabo, quoting the poet Alcaeus, mentions the Leleges,note Herodotus believed the first settlers were Pelasgians,note and Thucydides mentions the Aeolians.note The city took part in the Ionian Revolt against the Persians, and was a member of the Delian League after the Persian Wars.
During the Peloponnesian War, exiles from Lesbos captured the city, used it as base to recapture Mytilene, but were expelled by the Athenians, who garrisoned the place.note
Now that Athens and Sparta were fighting each other and had no opportunity to protect the Asian Greeks, Antandrus became Persian again. However, the new rulers were expelled twicenote before their rule became permanant.
The city lost importance in the fourth century, but retained its independence after Alexander the Great had overthrown the Persian Empire, as is shown by its coinage. The city made money from selling wood, which was cut in the Ida Mountains in the hinterland. It had a temple of Artemis. According to the Roman legend told by the poet Virgil, Antandrus was the place where Aeneas boarded his ships and set out for Italy after the fall of Troy.
